Your donation will help CEVA to:
1. expand the play space that Chani introduced to the city of Chandigarh. He and his group of merry players experimented with theatre as therapy, theatre-in-education, use of the community theatre process to help people to make sense of the challenges of these times, as a preparation of a career in theatre. We are committed to inviting more and more people to come play.
2. organise community theatre training for theatre people in Chandigarh and support people who would like to use the Community Theatre process in their work with grassroots communities.
3. Support Chani's CEVA Theatre Repertory in every way so that the organisation stays alive and kicking.

Background:
If you're outside India and would like to help out, please write to us at sukhmani.kohli@gmail.comWhen G.S.Chani brought Community theatre to the city of Chandigarh in the early 70’s. It was like nothing the streets of Chandigarh had ever seen before. We believe it irreversibly changed the the subliminal energy, nay, the molecular structure of the city … and it has never been the same again!
Chani’s Theatre has engaged with people on the streets and in different spaces of the city for half a century!
Anyone who has ever worked with Chani knows all about the commitment with which he guarded the space that he had carved out - that of a person-centred and process based theatre created in an interactive workshop. And this is where the participants and the communities they grew out of found their voice and platform.
Outside this space is production based theatre where the participants are actors, stage design is a ‘thing’ and the Director is … well, the Director.
The true beauty and elegance of the commitment to this space, shows up in its full glory … “Theatre of Joy” the Children’s Community Theatre facilitated by Chani and his group in more than a hundred schools in and around Chandigarh
This space is in danger of shrinking into oblivion given the crunch of resources that all cultural activities have been experiencing. We fear that the community of players that gathered around and practised with Chani will wither away.
