We Need Our Oceans Toxin-free!
While picking up trash from the beachside, which varies from cigarette butts to hospital discards, sweating beneath the face masks and gloves, under the scorching sun, we've witnessed the cruelty of consumerism and human negligence towards our planet and other life forms. Wherever we looked, the surface was covered with plastic and related wastes. Landfills are overflowing. Beach sand is mixed with microplastics; sandcastles are now made with sand and minute toxic wastes.
We Grow Forest Foundation has been carrying out beach cleanup activities for nearly a year now. We've picked up, sorted, and made almost all types of waste items recycling-ready. We now understand the origin and reason for garbage accumulation on seasides and the danger it causes. Non-biodegradable, toxic, rotting, you name it, we've already picked it up.
Simply collecting the waste won't resolve the issue. We need proper infrastructure for collection, sorting, and recycling units to reduce the impact and eliminate the causes in future. Our 1000s of volunteers need proper sanitary equipment while on the mission. We must procure bins, appoint collection staff, and help the local coastal communities join the mission.
We Grow Forest Team has already spent Rs 7,50,000 from own savings and borrowings to clean the shorelines of Thiruvananthapuram beaches and has exhausted all funding sources for the project alone. We’ve studied, understood and analysed the issues prevailing in marine littering at the sites and prepared a detailed report that will solve the same once implemented.
The Coastal Reformation Project can be replicated at every beach, making it free from waste and safe for future generations.
We Grow Forest Foundation aims to raise 1 Cr to protect our beaches from erosion, keep them clean, introduce a waste management system, develop circularity and help the coastal community throughout the nation. We will use the collected money for buying cleaning equipment, procuring and installing waste collection bins for beachside and floating bins for the nearby lakes (to manage floating wastes and prevent them from entering the sea). We are also planning to set up recycling units that can be shifted to a new site after usage.
“Little drops of water make the mighty ocean.”
We need your help to rid our oceans of plastic pollution, keep our beaches clean, beautify them and create awareness about the dangers of littering and the merits of waste management. ‘Clean Shoreline – The Sea of Change’ is a nation-building project that will raise the standards of seashores of all the beaches in India and develop a circular economy for efficient waste management. Your generous donations will give our shores a healthy future. The marine life and ecosystem depend heavily on our intervention to prevent further contamination. Help this cause by sponsoring and sharing our content to increase the reach and create awareness about the project.
We look forward to having you with us in fighting this uphill battle against marine pollution.
