In early August, I had the great privilege to go to a small school called Panchayat Union Middle School located in Puraiyur which is a village located an hour away from Tuticorin. During my visit, I spoke, mingled and had the opportunity to talk to the children of the school about what changes they would like to see. Sitting from a pedestal of privilege, we might assume that they might need particular things but when talking and discussing with them, I realised what they wanted and wished for the most was a library. The simple wish was for books! I was touched and disheartened at the same time! Touched that it was such a humble and honest wish; disheartened because books should be a priority for schools and yet it is only a wish for most children.

I decided on that day, that I would fundraise 40 books for all those 40 children in that classroom! I want them to have books, colours and creativity because that is the magic of education. I have chosen 40 children's books written by only Indian authors because I believe that learning can be impactful and touching only when it is made contextual!
