- Based on the results and experiences from the above programs we were designed to improve
the nutritional status children under 3 years of age through the integration of four components:
Ante-natal Care, Child Nutrition, Household Food Security and Microfinance.
To achieve the goal of reducing malnutrition rate in the project area, the project aimed at
reducing both underweight rate and stunting rate. With children under 24 months of age as its
target group, the project resources were concentrated on interventions in the 3 most important
stages of a child’s life: pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding for the 6 first months and
complementary feeding of the child from 6-60 months. These are the “golden” stages which
affect the later growth, height and development of the child. - “Focusing on children under 60 months of age is appropriate because this stage is very
important. If the child is taken good care of in this stage, he/she will be healthy and free from
malnutrition. If the mothers have good knowledge and skills of child nourishment when the child is under 60 months of age, they will know how to nourish the child during the period of 3-
5 years of age”.
strategic direction for these intervention programs was to improve child nutrition, reduce the
malnutrition rate, and decrease the proportion of children with stunting in ethnic minority
groups living in the poor mountainous areas. This is evidenced by the determination of the
project area and the choice of target group.
