Centre for Social Development(CSD) is a voluntary organization registered under societies act in the year 1992 and extending possible interventions of developmental and charitable nature to the economically weaker and distress people. One of our target communities for our intervention is SC & ST people in society. We are working intensively for the
development of this category people for their socio-economic uplift as well as emergency needs.
About the target community:
These people identified by us are settled in the hill and forest regions of Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu which is away from the nearby towns. For ration and medical needs, they have to come to the mainland. We have made a brief survey of the Kadayal village which has surrounded by 8 settlements such as Mookarakal, Mallanthankarai, Puraidam, Perumkuruvi, Adarkadu, Moothiramalai, and Kolangimadam) within a radius of 1-2 km. Their only survival is collecting forest produces like amla, honey, mango, jack fruit, herbs, etc. and sell them in the nearby market in the town. Due to the crucial COV1D-19 lockdown, they are not allowed to come out of their huts and collect the forest produces, which is the only source of their income. The forest department has put on restriction for their free movement in the forest area. Due to this circumstance, they are put into difficulties to meet their daily needs for food and medicines.
An appeal :
To meet the immediate need of the S.C &S.T Community, we are approaching MILAAP for raising the fund as financial assistance for the short duration of 15 days period. There are approx. 500 inmates along with 100 children. The total budget estimated is to tune of Rs.8,41,000/-, This estimated amount is for the supply of the food material and baby food along with some medical items. We hope that in the immediate future the situation will get normal and they can engage themselves in their routine work.
