“My daughter’s body doesn’t produce enough good blood. We have to be always prepared to take her for transfusions at any time. If we are late by even an hour she would turn pale and sometimes even faint. But now, even with the transfusions her condition is not improving, she needs an urgent transplant,” - Kanchan (father). 

‘For the last two years, she has weighed just a little more than 12 kgs’

Arohi is severely underweight for a 5-year-old - she weighs 12.7 kgs. She has Thalassemia since she was 9 months old and her condition has stunted her growth. It is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Arohi asks for chips and chocolates but her parents have told her that it's a strict no-no. The little girl doesn't understand that even a little bit of outside food that give her a fatal infection.
 

“Even with the most nutritious food and the medicines, she is not growing like any other child her age.  She is not as active and can't afford to run around and play with them. She is no longer afraid of the transfusions but often asks me what is wrong with her and why she needs so many injections, I don’t know what to tell her.” 

‘With every passing minute we are delaying the transplant and her condition is getting critical’

Arohi’s blood disease is taking a toll on her on her spleen. The spleen filters the large number of red blood cells which are destroyed as a result of Thalassemia. So her spleen has enlarged to work harder for the body. Her stomach is swollen and she complains of a severe stomach ache. With her condition getting critical, Kanchan has realised without the transplant, he might lose his daughter.

‘I haven’t been to work for the last 3 months, I have no money left even for her medicines’

Kanchan and his family hail from Chittagong, Bangladesh and he works in a small machinery parts factory there. But for the last 3 months, he has been in Bangalore, India trying to afford the best treatment for his daughter.
 

“I pay about Rs 10,000 per month for our lodging in a small guest house. About 6000 rupees is spent everyday on her medicines and transfusions. With already having spent around Rs 2 lakhs, I don’t know how will I arrange for 43 lakhs more.” 

Kanchan and his wife, both are willing to be the donor but money has become a major roadblock

Arohi is 5-year-old and is fighting a severe blood disease that is affecting her other organs. She is weak and tired and without the urgent transplant she won’t be getting any better.
 

“My wife and I are 50% matched donors, either of us are willing to be the donors. But unless people come forward and help me, I will never be able to save my daughter.”
