About the Event:
PBP stands for Paris-Brest-Paris. It is the most famous and one of the oldest long-distance endurance bicycling event in the world in which the participants are required to complete the journey from Paris to Brest and back to Paris spanning 1200km to be completed within a strict 90-hour cut off limit and the clock runs continuously. They have several control/check points through the course where there are calculated cut-off timings at each point for every participant. It is not a team event and everyone has to accomplish it totally self supported. This prestigious event in France happens once every 4 years and 2019 is our lucky year. The 20th edition of PBP takes place during Aug 18th to 22nd, 2019. The PBP route consists of a hilly terrain with very unpredictable weather including severe downpours and extreme chillness. The participants must be prepared for everything and any mechanical issues with the bicycle must be attended by the participant only.
In order to qualify for the PBP, the organizing body Audax Club Parisien conducts 200km, 300km, 400km, 600km, 1000km, and 1200km rides(brevet) across the world in many countries. Applicants have to participate in these events and they are given an entry into PBP based on their track record during these 4 years. Also, you will be required to be a Super Randonneur in the participating year to take part in the PBP. Super Randonneur means completing a series of 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km in a single Audax calendar year.
In PBP 2015, approx. 59 Indians participated and only 15 finished. This year approx 350 Indians are planning to take part. Arun will be one of them and he aims to complete the event with 80 hours, which is a good 10 hours before the given cut-off time. So, Arun will be one of the strong contestants for our country, going to this event.
In past 23 months Arun have completed 35000 KMS .
