We have all come across mysterious cats and kittens in public spaces running in the streets of Bombay, to hide behind cars or buildings. Some of them are friendly, and some are shy. However, most of them are hungry and/or sick, and live short, difficult lives. With few people to care for them, street-born kittens have a high risk of dying, getting hurt, or becoming ill. Neutering them can considerably reduce the number of kittens born on the streets.
The below data shows one unspayed female, her mate, and all of her offspring producing 2 litters per year, with 2.8 surviving kittens per litter.
1 year -12
2 years - 67
3 years - 376
4 years - 2107
5 years - 11,801
6 years - 66,088
7 years - 370,092
8 years - 2,072,514

Hence one unneutered pair of cats can result in an average of 20 lakh offspring in their lifetime. By spaying and neutering just one male and one female cat, more than 2,000 unwanted births can be prevented in just four years - and more than 2 lakhs in 8 years. In addition to preventing overpopulation, spayed/neutered cats are less likely to engage in cat fights and are at a decreased risk of developing ovarian and testicular cancer.
We often forget that this phenomenon can be prevented and the suffering they go through can be put to an end by proper neutering procedures. Help us give them better lives by supporting our Neuter Drive!
We plan to neuter 100 cats. How many cats will you help?
The Process:
- The cats are first collected from Colaba, Nariman Point, and Churchgate and taken to the veterinarian for surgery
- Here, they get operated and treated.
- They have an overnight stay for post-surgery care to ensure good health.
- They are then dropped off from where they were picked up to have a healthier, happier life!
Come join us in this drive as we manage the population of stray cats in Mumbai :)
The drive is being run by Thinksharp Foundation and TribesforGOOD.
