    ADARSH KUMAR

    from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand

“Tears roll down my eyes when I see my son lying down in the hospital bed, unable to open his eyes due to heavy doses of sedation. When he does open his eyes, he stares blankly ahead - my own son can’t recognise me. For almost a month now, he hasn’t opened his mouth to talk or even eat. His condition is not improving and he needs to stay in the hospital for longer. But I am afraid that I won’t be able to afford that,” - Rajiv, father of 4-year-old Adarsh.

A severe infection in this boy’s brain is slowly killing him

Adarsh has Japanese encephalitis - a severe viral infection that causes inflammation of the brain. The infection is now spreading to his spinal cord. The little boy can’t sit up, even when his parents are helping him.

“He said his entire body was in pain and he was running a high temperature. We took him to the hospital in Jamshedpur but didn’t think that it would turn out to be something as dangerous as this. He was admitted there for 5 days and his condition got better. They even discharged him. But all our hopes were crushed when just a few days later his fever came back. This time, I didn’t take any chances - we took him to Kolkata in an ambulance.”

The hospital has become the second home for these helpless parents

Rajiv and his wife, Priyanka are spending sleepless nights in the hospital praying for their son’s fast recovery. Adarsh was in the ICU and ventilator support for almost a week. He is out of the ICU now but still not completely out of danger. He is in a delicate state and might need to be rushed to the ICU anytime.

“He was a bright child and we were about to get him admitted to school soon. He was looking forward to that. Now all that feels like a dream, I pass every day in fear that he will not make it. We always took good care of him, I don’t know how this happened - it must have been an evil eye,” - Priyanka said breaking down in tears.

He is all we have, we are desperate to save him - please help us

Rajiv works in a construction firm in Jamshedpur and makes around Rs 12,000. For almost a month now he hasn’t been able to go to work - he fears he might lose the job and put his entire family in a crisis. His savings are over but hospital bills are piling up. Till now he has only been able to pay 2 lakhs after borrowing from friends and family. He needs about 7 lakhs more.

“My son doesn’t smile anymore, he simply stares at the walls. The infection in his brain is spreading rapidly and he needs to stay in the hospital for longer. That’s the only way I will get him back. Please help me save him.”

Rajiv is struggling very hard to save his 4-year-old son. Without your help, this father won't be able to take his son home - a small contribution from your side will make a big difference
