Our dear friend Abhishek Vashistha has faced immense challenges since 2018, and he's been confronting them mostly on his own, with the support of his elderly parents. Abhishek has been residing in Jaipur with his parents since then and is currently on the path to recovery from a clavicle fracture.

Abhishek is an esteemed alumnus of St. Xavier's School, Jaipur 1999 passout. In addition to that he is an alumnus of MREC/MNIT, Jaipur belonging to the B.Arch class of 1999-2004. Also he is alumnus of NICMAR, Pune belonging to PGDACM batch of 2005-2007.

In mid-2018, Abhishek received a life-changing diagnosis of HIV, and it has since had a profound impact on his life. Being the only child of parents in their 70s has added to the challenges he faces. Although HIV was detected early, the social stigma surrounding the illness and its non-curable nature have taken a toll on his mental health, leading to chronic depression.

At the beginning of this year, Abhishek was also diagnosed with schizophrenia, which has raised concerns about his ability to work for the next 2-3 years. The medications he's on for his condition slow down his mind and reaction time, making it challenging to thrive in a corporate environment. Finding a job in his field in Jaipur has proven difficult, and relocating to another city with his elderly parents is not an option.

As a result, his career has suffered a significant setback due to his struggles with depression and hopelessness. While HIV medications are available for free at government HIV centers, Abhishek had to purchase them from the open market due to frequent city changes for work. Additionally, half-yearly and annual blood tests from private facilities have incurred substantial costs, totaling approximately 1.5 lakhs annually.

Despite Abhishek's valiant efforts to work intermittently over the past five years, his income has been limited, and expenses have spiraled, leading to mounting debt. Although he has a 20 Lakh medical insurance cover, it only applies to hospitalization, and HIV medication is not covered by medical insurance policies. There is a lack of government support for mental illness, and insurance policies do not cover it either. The monthly cost of his medications is around 10,000 rupees, and the treatment spans 2-3 years.

Abhishek's parents are already demoralized, and he cannot burden them further. The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide Abhishek and his family with some relief by raising a modest amount. This fund will serve as a buffer for immediate medical expenses, alleviating some of the pressure from the over 10 lakh debt he currently faces.
