As per Census 2011, the number of abandoned elders in India is 18 lacs (0.18 Crore) and growing. At the same time, out of every 10 elderly couples in India, more than 6 are forced by their children to leave their homes leaving a large number of elderlies abandoned on the streets.
SHEOWS for the last 18 years is working on the cause of saving the elderly who are dying on the roadsides, footpaths etc.
As presently there are no old age homes for paralytic, the disabled and bedridden elderly who provide comprehensive support to them under one roof.
SHEOWS has supported and given a new life to more than 4500 abandoned and helpless old people and has helped cremating more than 1700 elderly orphan with respect to their religion.
To cater the increasing problem of abandonment of elderly people, SHEOWS's expansion is necessary during the pandemic itself to serve more elderly effectively. Consequently, SHEOWS's is planning to expand their establishment of new old-age home at 1 acre land in Chattarpur, New Delhi to cater the need of 500+ new elderly people at Delhi/NCR.
