Support Queer LitFest 2019, Chennai - India

The first edition of Queer LitFest was organised in 2018 by Queer Chennai Chronicles (QCC) through crowd funding. The first edition celebrated various voices of Queer Literature in India, with a special focus on the Tamil Queer Literature. QCC LitFest 2018 was a one day packed event, consisting of Panel Discussions, Lectures, Poetry readings, Book Readings, and a Lunch break.
 
The Litfest brought together Queer authors, translators, creators, with media persons, Queer community and allies and stimulated conversations about Queerness in Indian languages and Indian English writings.

This year the Queer LitFest 2019, Chennai will also be a one-day event with panels, discussions, workshops, book announcements and readings.
 
Why Queer LitFest
 
Isn’t all literature, literature? Why label something as Queer and have a dedicated litfest for that?
 
It is true that Queer Literature are sometimes discussed on the mainstream and alternative literature festivals of India. But they doesn’t have the opportunity to discuss the wide spectrum of diverse Queer voices, and they often end up as spaces for discussing current queer issues in general. The literary value of a work, and the queerness of the work or author, are discussed only the loss of the other. Needless to say, many public spaces in India are queerphobic and or not safe for the queer community. These again are all that’s available for writings in English, and a certain kind of works that get repeatedly translated into English.
 
So every work of art is filled with political undertones, ambitions among other things. Queer literature is literature, we agree with you, and welcome you to discuss the literary value of it without invisibilizing the queerness of it. A focus of our litfest is certainly that. Identity politics is not new for us either, the greatest intellectuals of our country have explained the importance of the names we are called by which are used as tools to oppression or empowerment.
 
Why crowdfunding
 
As an Independent Publishing Forum we want the Litfest to be a space that encourages Queer individuals and allies who are involved in helping us organise the event. Queer talent is still marginalised and devalued, and we as a society need to go a long way to gain workplace equality when it comes to queer individuals. While we are also looking for sponsors who are willing to collaborate with us where we don’t have to compromise on our values and agenda of the Queer LitFest, we are mostly relying on community crowdfunding to organise the Queer LitFst as we did in 2018. We at QCC feel the right thing to do is to honour the effort, time and work of queer individuals in all our events and projects. The funds collected will be used to remunerate individuals who are involved in organising the event, and queer artists, writers who participate in panel discussions and present lectures. We are looking for like-minded people to support us financially for the Litfest.
 
How will we use the money
 
The QCC Litfest 2019 will be held in the month of September 2019 in Chennai. Authors, Creators from around Tamil Nadu and India are invited for the event.
 
The money will be used to:

Remunerate volunteer individuals, speakers and panelists
Print and design the LitFest collaterals
Print and Online Promotions
Cover travel costs and stay of speakers from outside Chennai
Refreshment and food for volunteers and speakers

Short for Queer Chennai Chronicles, QCC is an independent Publishing forum started in 2017 to promote and publish Queer Literature with a focus on Tamil writings. Our First book Vidupattavai (The Leftouts) by Gireesh, an author and artist from Chennai, was published in collaboration with Karuppu Pirathigal during the Chennai book fair on January 2018. எந்த ஒரு சமுதாயத்தின் வாழ்க்கை முறைகளையும், அவர்கள் வாழ்ந்ததற்கான அடையாளங்களையும் அவர்களது இலக்கியங்கள் மூலமாகவே நாம் அறியமுடியும். ஆவணப்படுத்தப்பட்ட அந்த இலக்கியங்களே அடுத்தடுத்த தலைமுறைகளுக்கு அந்த வாழ்வினையும் அதன் சாரங்களையும் கொண்டு சேர்க்கும்.
 
இந்திய அளவில் பால்புதுமையினரின் வாழ்க்கையையும் அவர்களது வலிகளையும், போராட்டங்களையும் பால்புதுமையினர் அல்லாத எழுத்தாளர்கள் பால்புதுமையினரின் கதைகளைக் கேட்டு அவர்களுடன் உரையாடல்களை நிகழ்த்தி ஆவணப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு இருந்தனர். காலமாற்றத்தில் பால்புதுமையினர் சமுதாயத்தைச் சார்ந்த மக்கள் தங்களது கதைகளைத் தாங்களே பேசவும் எழுதவும் தொடங்கினர்.
 
அம்மாதிரியான இலக்கியங்களை பால்புதுமையினர் அல்லாத பொதுச்சமூகத்தில் கொண்டு சேர்க்கவும், அவர்களுடன் உரையாடலை ஏற்படுத்தவும், பால்புதுமையினர் சமூகத்தில் வளர்ந்து வரும் எழுத்தாளர்களை ஆதரிக்கவும், அவர்களின் எழுத்துக்களுக்கான ஒரு இடத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவதும் முக்கிய நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு குயர் சென்னை க்ரானிக்கள்ஸ் “குயர் இலக்கிய விழா” நடத்துவது என முடிவு செய்து 2018-ம் வருடம் ஜூலை மாதம் எங்களது முதல் இலக்கியவிழாவை கவிக்கோ மன்றத்தில் நடத்தினோம்.
 
மூன்று அமர்வுகள், இரண்டு உரைகள், ஒரு வாசிப்பு நிகழ்வு என முழுநாள் நிகழ்வாக எங்களது முதல் இலக்கியவிழாவை நடத்தினோம். நாங்கள் நடத்திய இந்த இலக்கியவிழாவே இந்திய அளவில் பால்புதுமையினருக்கான முதல் இலக்கியவிழாவாகவும், அதன்பிறகு நடைபெறும் அனைத்து பால்புதுமையினர் இலக்கிய விழாவுக்கும் முன்னோடியாக இருப்பதிலும் பெருமை கொள்கிறோம்.
 
2018-ம் ஆண்டு நடந்த இலக்கியவிழாவில் நிதி உதவி செய்த நண்பர்கள், நிகழ்வில் உதவிய நண்பர்கள், கலந்துகொண்ட பேச்சாளர்கள், நிகழ்வில் கலந்து கொண்டவர்கள் என அனைவருக்கும் நன்றி தெரிவிப்பதோடு “குயர் இலக்கியவிழா 2019” அறிவிப்பதில் நாங்கள் பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைகிறோம்.
 
இந்த வருடமும் குயர் இலக்கியவிழா அமர்வுகள், உரையாடல்கள், பயற்சிப்பட்டறைகள், புத்தக அறிவிப்புகள், புத்தக வாசிப்பு என ஒரு முழுநாள் நிகழ்வாக நடைபெற இருக்கிறது. கடந்த வருடம் எந்த முன் அனுபவமும் இல்லாமல் பொதுமக்களிடமும், ஆதரவாளர்களிடமும், நண்பர்களிடமும் நிதியைத் திரட்டியே ஒருநாள் நிகழ்வை வெற்றிகரமாக நடத்தி முடித்தோம்.
 
இவ்வருடம் கழிந்தவருடம் பெற்ற அனுபவத்தோடும், ஒரு முழுநாள் நிகழ்வை வெற்றிகரமாக நிகழ்த்திமுடித்த பெருமிதத்தோடும் உங்கள் முன்னால் மறுபடியும் வந்திருக்கிறோம்.
 
குயர் சென்னை க்ரோனிக்கிள்ஸ் என்பது தனிநபர்கள் இணைந்து நடத்தும் ஒரு பதிப்பகம். பால்புதுமையினரின் இலக்கியங்களை தனியாகவும் ஆதரவாளர்களோடு இணைந்தும் வெளியிட்டுக் கொண்டு இருக்கும் குயர் சென்னை க்ரானிக்கள்ஸ் ஒருவருடத்திற்கும் மேலாக அப்பதிப்பகத்தை நடத்தும் நபர்களின் சொந்த வருமானத்தின் மூலமாகவே இயங்கி வருகிறது. இந்நிலையில் இலக்கியவிழா நடத்துவதற்கு பெரிய அளவில் பண உதவி தேவைப்படுகிறது.
 
சென்ற வருட நிகழ்வில் நண்பர்கள் மற்றும் ஆதரவாளர்களிடம் திரட்டிய நிதியோடு எங்களது சொந்தப்பணத்தில் நிகழ்வு நடைபெற்றது. இதற்கான கணக்கை குயர்சென்னை கிரானிக்கள்சின் முகநூல் பக்கத்தில் பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறோம். இவ்வருட நிகழ்வை நடத்துவதற்கும் எங்களுக்கு பெரிய அளவிலான ஆதரவும் நிதி உதவியும் தேவைப்படுகிறது.
 
எனவே தங்களால் முடிந்த நிதி உதவியை தந்து உதவுமாறு அன்போடு கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறோம். மேலும் எங்களது இந்நிகழ்வில் இணைந்து பணியாற்ற விருப்பம் இருக்கும் நண்பர்களையும் ஆதரவாளர்களையும் அன்போடு அழைக்கிறோம்.

ஏன் குயர் இலக்கிய விழா?

எல்லா இலக்கியமும் இலக்கியம்தான் இல்லையா? ஏன் சிலவற்றை குயர் இலக்கியம் என அடையாளப்படுத்தி அதற்கெனத் தனியாக விழா கொண்டாடவேண்டும்?

குயர் இலக்கியங்கள் சில சமயம் இந்தியாவின் பிரபல மற்றும் மாற்று இலக்கியத் திருவிழாக்களில் விவாதிக்கப் படுவது உண்மைதான். ஆனால் பன்முகப்பட்ட பால்புதுமைக் குரல்களுக்கு அங்கே இடமிருப்பதில்லை, பொதுவாக பால்புதுமையினர் சமூகப் பிரச்சனைகளை மேலோட்டமாக விவாதிக்கும் தளமாக அவை சுருங்கிவிடுகின்றன. ஒரு படைப்பின் இலக்கிய மதிப்பு, அல்லது படைப்பினுடையவோ எழுத்தாளருடையவோ பால்புதுமைத் தன்மை, இவற்றில் ஒன்றை இழந்தே மற்றொன்று விவாதிக்கப் படுகிறது. இந்தியாவில் பெரும்பாலான பொதுத் தளங்கள் பால்புதுமையினரை வெறுப்பதாகவும், பால்புதுமை சமூகத்தினருக்கு பாதுகாப்பற்றதாகவுமே இருக்கிறதென தனியாகச் சொல்லவேண்டியதில்லை. இந்த சிறிய இடங்களும் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுத அல்லது மொழிபெயர்க்கப்படும் படைப்புகளுக்கு மட்டுமே, குறிப்பிட்ட சில வகைப்பாடுகளிலேயே இந்திய ஆங்கிலத்தில் குயர் படைப்புகள் உள்ளன.

எந்தவொரு கலைப் படைப்பிலும் அரசியல் இருப்பதோடு, மற்ற விசயங்களோடு சில சமூக நோக்கங்களும் தாக்கங்களும் இருக்கவே செய்கின்றன. பால்புதுமை இலக்கியங்களும் இலக்கியங்களே என ஒப்புக் கொள்கிறோம், அவற்றின் பால்புதுமைத் தன்மையை மறைக்காமல் அவற்றின் இலக்கிய மதிப்பை விவாதிக்கவே உங்களை அழைக்கிறோம். இவ்விலக்கிய விழாவின் நோக்கமும் அதுவே. அடையாள அரசியல் நமக்குப் புதிதும் அல்ல, இந்நாட்டின் மகத்தான மேதைகள் நாம் எப்பெயரால் அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம் என்பதன் முக்கியத்துவம், அவை ஒடுக்கும் அல்லது விடுவிக்கும் கருவிகளாக எப்படி இருக்கின்றன என்பதைப் பற்றியும் நிறையவே விளக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள்தானே.

ஏன் பொதுப்பங்களிப்பை நாடுகிறோம்?

ஒரு தன்னிச்சையான பதிப்புத் தளமாக இந்த இலக்கிய விழா பால்புதுமை சமூகத்தினரையும் ஆதரவாளர்களையும் உள்ளடக்கி, அவர்களது உதவியோடு நடைபெறவேண்டுமென விரும்புகிறோம். பால்புதுமையினர் திறன்கள் நமது சமூகத்தில் மதிப்புக் குறைக்கப்பட்டும் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுமே இன்னும் இருக்கின்றன. பால்புதுமையினருக்கான பணி, சமத்துவம் நோக்கிய பாதையின் நாம் நீண்டதூரம் செல்லவேண்டியிருக்கிறது. இத்தகைய நிகழ்விலும் எங்களது அனைத்து பணிகளிலும் பால்புதுமை தனிநபர்களின் நேரம், பணியை மதிப்பதே சரியானதாக இருக்கும். இதில் பங்கேற்கும் பால்புதுமைக் கலைஞர்கள், எழுத்தாளர்கள், உரையாளர்களுக்கு சரியான ஈடு வழங்கவேண்டுமென உறுதிகொண்டுள்ளோம். இதற்கே ஒத்தகருத்துள்ளவர்களின் நிதிரீதியான ஆதரவை எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். எங்களது குயர் இலக்கியவிழாவின் கொள்கைகளையும் நோக்கங்களையும் விட்டுக்கொடுக்கவேண்டிய அவசியத்தை ஏற்படுத்தாமல் எங்களுடன் இணைந்து பணிசெய்ய விரும்பும் ஸ்பான்சர்களைத் தேடும் அதே நேரம் கழிந்த வருடம் மக்களிடம் நிதி உதவி பெற்றதுபோல் பெறுவதையே பணத்திற்கான முதன்மை வழியாக நம்புகிறோம்.
