You can save the lives of 40 malnourished children

Palghar district in Maharashtra - a mere 90 km away from Mumbai - is facing a severe nutrition crisis. The number of child deaths due to malnutrition has sharply increased in recent months, with as many as 209 deaths between April and August 2016.

Fight Hunger Foundation is one of the few NGOs in India who work specifically with children with acute malnutrition. We provide them therapeutic food that restores their health within six to eight weeks.

Our aim in Palghar is to ensure no child dies of hunger. We started our program in September 2016  and have now opened two outpatient clinics to screen, detect and treat these children. Through this campaign we aim to raise Rs. 2,00,000 and save the lives of at least 40 children in Palghar, who are currently at the risk of dying due to severe acute malnutrition.

It only takes Rs. 5000/- to provide therapeutic food and provide live-saving treatment to a child. During the treatment, therapeutic food is given to the child for about six-eight weeks which restores his/her digestive system and takes care of his/her nutritional need to help the child recover soon. We ensure that the child does not fall back to this debilitating state by doing regular follow-ups. A take home ration (that includes Pulses, Oil, Wheat, Rice, Sugar) is given to the child after the treatment to ensure he/she stays healthy soon after the treatment.

A child is given 2-3 sachets of therapeutic food per day for 6 weeks for complete recovery

Our brand ambassador and legendary musician, Sonu Nigam has recorded a song especially for us about our fight to end hunger in India.

In his words, “I can no longer just stand by, while millions of India’s children die of hunger. My new song “HopeInTheFuture” is dedicated to Fight Hunger Foundation. They fight every day for the day when no child in India dies of hunger. I know that if we come together to fight hunger, this day will come soon.”

We now look upon you to join us in this fight and save the lives of these children and promise them a healthy and happy future.

With your help we are convinced we can achieve this goal.

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Fight Hunger Foundation! We hope you are doing very well.

Through your kind donation on milaap.org in the past, we have been able reach out to many malnourished children and provide them life-saving treatment. We thank you immensely for the same.

As we gear up for the summers to stay hydrated and healthy, there are many malnourished children in rural Rajasthan who do not have access to clean drinking water and nutritious food. These children are at risk of dying. We need to take urgent action today to prevent them from sliding into tragedy.

Our field team is working tirelessly to ensure that no child dies due to malnutrition. But we cannot do this alone. We need your help to save lives.

Dear Friends,

A big thank you from Fight Hunger Foundation!

We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support you have given us by helping us raise Rs. 2,37,076/- through the campaign on milaap.org. It means a lot to us to have you by our side, while we endeavour to save lives of children dying of acute malnutrition.

With your help and the funds raised, we will be able to provide life-saving treatment to 48 malnourished children in Palghar. The below picture is of a eight months old severely malnourished child, baby Sheela (name changed), from Mokhada block of Palghar.

When our community mobilisers met her, they were shocked to see the blank gaze in her eyes. A child of her age should have been crawling on the floor, squeaking and babbling and putting random things in her mouth, with a glint of mischief in her eyes. Instead, here was this child, lying down, hardly moving her hands and legs, whining with a soft painful tone, unable to eat having lost her appetite due to severe acute malnutrition. She needed immediate medical attention but her parents were poor labourers who could not afford to take her to a health centre for treatment, for fear of losing out on a day’s pay. Baby Sheela was soon wasting away and becoming critical.

Because of your support, she is on her way to recovery. She is being provided with medical assistance and therapeutic food by our team. Our front line workers are on their job doing regular home visits and conducting counselling session for her parents on need to provide her with nutrition and teaching her mother the magical impact that cuddling and baby massages would have on Sheela.

There are many more children like Sheela who have received treatment and medical care thanks to your generous donation.

On behalf of our entire team and all the children in Palghar thank you once again for supporting us in our fight against hunger.
