Srighanth began crawling as early as 4 months of age, and started pulling himself up on the furniture at five months. He grew up very active and his parents had a tough time putting him to sleep. Unfortunately, to everyone's shock, just a few days before his 4th birthday, he was diagnosed with blood cancer. This once-confident and active kid now fears even the footsteps of people. He thinks people come to give him injections. He used to hide behind the doors, but now, the chemotherapy that he had for the past 1 year has left him weak. He cannot even walk or grip a glass of water and has developed a persistent tremor in his hand.

Srighanth's family is living an isolated and painful life, they have no strength to see their son going through immense pain. His only chance of survival is intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant which they can never imagine to afford in their lifetime.

The family received a devastating news which they have not come to terms with yet

Last year, suddenly, he fell sick and became weak. His parents' concerns began to really grow when Srighanth began to stop eating and drastically lost weight. Despite taking him to the doctor numerous times his condition went undiagnosed. He was all skin and bones. The local doctors said that it is a phase and he would get through it. Rajeshwari's motherly instincts said otherwise - she took him to a hospital in Chennai where his cancer was diagnosed. He has Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, it occurs when a bone marrow cell develops errors in its DNA. It can progress rapidly and can turn fatal if not treated.

His little body is poked with injections everywhere.  He gets painful lumps in his legs frequently, which are cut and dressed up. By the time Srighanth was admitted to the hospital in Bangalore his condition had become worse and doctors said he needs a bone marrow transplant to recover completely. His sister Madhusree (8) is, fortunately, a matching donor for him. "My son saw us falling down at the feet of the doctors and begging to save him, it is etched in his memory and since then he also does the same whenever the doctors give him injections. They had to spend at least an hour to comfort him." His parents knew that only a transplant can put an end to all their trauma but the cost of it is unimaginable for these poor parents.

A seasonal farm labourer, Ravi has no means to afford the treatment

Srighanth's father, Ravi, is a seasonal farm labourer who earns Rs 300 per day. The people from his village helped him apply for the CM and PM funds after a  lot of struggle he managed to apply for it and he received 5 lakhs, but it is nowhere close to the money he needed for the transplant.

"I do not even know how we've survived this past year. Since his diagnosis I have been asking for money from everyone and sometimes I get 10, 20 rupees but I'm thankful for everyone who helped me. I used every rupee I got for his treatment. Now I need 34 lakh for the treatment. I can't even imagine such a huge amount of money but how can I give up on my son? He deserves a healthy life." - Ravi.
