Why am I fundraising?
Children and families of migrant labor, mainly in the construction industry, live in temporary makeshift tents for the duration of the project before moving to a newer site. Children play with sand and cement by watching and imitating their parents and become earning members themselves very early; instances of 14 to 15 year old girls getting married as soon as attaining puberty is very common. ALL these children grow with malnutrition under unhealthy, unhygienic and harsh conditions without ever experiencing a decent childhood and without ever visiting a school.
BRAHMI is proposing to change this scenario for a few children every year by initially creating a mobile school, stationed at a convenient nodal location close to the construction sites/camping sites initially and engage a school bus to ferry children from their camping sites and enrolling them at Anjana Vidya Kendra school (run by Brahmi) eventually.
The goal can simply be stated as the one to convert uncared children playing with concrete to normal children and then to students and sustain their education in a school.
What do I plan to do with the funds?
1. Purchase a school bus to be dedicated exclusively for this purpose equipped with basic Teaching and Learning Materials.
2. Pay salaries to a teacher and a support staff working in makeshift schools
DoubtsChildren may not progress on the path of education as families migrate to a newer city or a far off location within the city. In such cases Brahmi would try and network similar charities working in the area to ensure these children continue on the path of learning. However, in the event these children dropout for whatever reasons, the fact that these children would experience childhood and learning for a year or more is in itself a rewarding experience for the child and the organization.
