“Our baby is in the hospital - she has a hole in her heart. She needs to be breastfed daily and my wife has to be healthy to feed her. I drive an auto from early morning to late in the night to afford a meal for my wife. I cannot risk skipping work even for a day, if I do, my wife and my sick daughter will starve. Despite trying hard to keep my baby healthy, I can do nothing to cure her of her heart disease. She needs an urgent surgery, but the expenses are above my means,” - Srinivasulu, father. 

A fatal heart disease has left these parents devastated 

Sampoornamma and Srinivasalu's  baby did not cry at birth which was a dangerous sign. Nobody was able to tell what was wrong with the baby in the government hospital. Srinivasulu had to leave his wife alone to rush his baby to a better hospital in an ambulance. After various tests, he was told that the baby has a hole in her heart.

“I was worried how to tell this miserable news to my wife but I did not have a choice. I promised her that I will work hard to save the baby. We were told that our newborn needed surgery when she turns two. My daily earnings were only enough to afford a meal for my wife, I couldn’t save anything for the surgery. Once in every three months I borrowed money to afford the tests and medicines for my daughter, it costed Rs 7,000 each time,” Srinivasulu.

With each passing day, the hole in the baby's heart is only increasing 

2-year-old Parvathi was born with ventricular septal defect, a hole in the wall between the heart's lower chambers. The gap allows blood to pass from the left to the right side of the heart which may result to heart failure. When Parvathi turned two, the hole increased causing danger to her life. Now only a surgery can cure her. 

“My baby doesn’t know what it is like to have a deep sleep. Every night she cries for hours and it takes me a while to calm her down. She frequently wakes through out the night and only way to make her fall asleep is to rest her on my shoulder and walk. She is very active during the day but doctors have warned us that she cannot run or walk for long as she might go breathless. I feel helpless when she cries when I don’t allow her to run. It hurts to see how she should be restricted from such simple things,” - Sampoornamma.

With earnings of Rs 200 a day, this auto driver is struggling to save his 2-year-old baby girl

Srinivasulu is the sole breadwinner of the family. He drives an auto which he bought on rent and barely makes Rs 200 as a daily wager. With this little amount he struggles to feed his family. He has spent all his savings and borrowed around Rs 70,000 from his friends for his daughter’s medication. Baby Parvathi’s surgery costs 4 lakhs and Srinivasulu cannot afford it.

“Everyday I live in fear of losing my little daughter. Only the surgery can save her life but even if I work day and night I cannot afford it. I failed to keep my promise to my wife that I'll  save our baby. I worked hard but it hasn't been enough. Please help my daughter survive,” - Srinivasulu.
