It is our pleasure to inform you that ‘Satyaniketan’ is a Voluntary Social Service Organization working mainly in the Tribal concentration of Akole Tahasil in Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra, since 1950. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. ‘Satyaniketan’ performed a very major role in promoting Sarvodaya Scheme effectively with its objectives of Rural and Tribal development. ‘Satyaniketan’ is affiliated to the Bharatiya Adim Jati Sevak Sangh, New Delhi. The main objective of ‘Satyaniketan’ is to carry on a charitable institution to help the public in general and Tribal as well as Backward Classes in particular, following the Sarvodaya principles based on truth and non-violence. The founders and great Gandhian followers, educationists and social workers R.V. Patankar, Bapusaheb Shende and Savitribai Madan dedicated their whole life for the welfare and well-being of Tribal people of the region.
At present, ‘Satyaniketan’ is running one Senior College, three Junior Colleges, three Secondary Schools, one Residential Ashram School, three Boys Hostels, two Girls Hostels, one Short Stay Home for women and 30 Crèche Centres (Day Care Centres for children of the age between 0-6 years).
‘Satyaniketan’ is offering its services in the segments like Education, Child-care, Eradication of Social Injustice and Women Empowerment. ‘Satyaniketan’ has set a basic foundation of Tribal and Rural Development.

‘70 year’s continuous and successful journey for Tribal Empowerment’ is the real achievement of ‘Satyaniketan’. ‘Satyaniketan’ has contributed considerably in bringing the tribal population of Akole Tehsil to the mainstream of development. Through its different branches, it has helped in removing the curse of illiteracy. Institutions like Adv. M.N.Deshmukh Arts, Commerce & Science College, Rajur, Guruvarya R.V. Patankar Sarvodaya Vidya Mandir & Junior College, Rajur, Nanasaheb Vithoba Deshmukh Sarvodaya Vidya Mandir, Katalapur, Sarvodaya Vidya Mandir & Junior College, Khirvire, Primary and Secondary Ashram School, Shenit have a great share in spreading educational value and legal awareness among the tribal community. Social service is an integral part of each and every activity of ‘Satyaniketan’.‘Satyaniketan’ succeeded in improving education, health and basic amenities of the rural and tribal region of Akole, succeeded in changing the hearts and minds of the people also through its systematic work in 70 years. It has assisted governments and public service providers in developing and delivering services which offer a better way of life to the people they serve.
‘Satyaniketan’ has been giving high importance towards academic excellence and providing various opportunities to the students. Besides providing proper education, ‘Satyaniketan’ has also helped in the conduction of various programmes like Literacy, Women Empowerment, Poverty Eradication, Tribal Awareness Camps, Tree-plantation, Watershed Management, Disease Diagnosis Camps, Aids awareness programmes, Superstition Eradication and Employment Schemes for last 70 successful years. ‘Satyaniketan’s’ Short Stay Home succeeded in rehabilitating many women, girls, and families so far.
In the year 1972, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi felicitated Savitribai Madan, founder Treasurer of ‘Satyaniketan’ for her remarkable work in Freedom Fighting Movement as well as her special work for the welfare of tribal people. She was felicitated by giving ‘Tamra Patra’ on the occasion of Independence Day. For its great work in the tribal region, Government of Maharashtra honored ‘Satyaniketan’ with ‘Adivasi Sevak Puraskar’ (Tribal Servant Award) in the year 1988. In the year 1999, Sarda Foundation, Nashik awarded ‘Satyaniketan’ with ‘Nandini Award’. In 2005 ‘Satyaniketan’s’ Adv. M. N. Deshmukh Arts, Science and Commerce College was awarded ‘Best College Award’ by Savitribai Phule Pune University. The College is also awarded ‘Energy Conservation Award’ by Maharashtra Energy Development Agency and ‘Vanshri Award’ by Government of Maharashtra.

With the 67 years of exemplary services in tribal welfare, Satyaniketan has transformed thousands of deprived families and also led them towards a better and prosperous future. The initiative has been well received by the beneficiary communities. Still, there are many such communities which are trailing far behind and living on the edge. Therefore, it would be essential to encourage the children, women, and youths of the communities to take the initiative.
