DURGAPUR WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION, a non profit organization, has been serving the children and women from the underprivileged community of Durgapur, West Bengal.
It's been noticed that education for this underprivileged community has been lowly attended and most of the children from this community are suffering from malnutrition due to scarcity of proper nutritional food as they belong to the families below poverty line.
Women from the same locality are working as housemaids with very low income and poor health conditions.
Saikat Aich, the founder- Secreatry of Durgapur Women's Development Organization, has teamed up with some like minded social activists like Tumpa Roy, Arumita Jha, Mandira Paul Choudhury, Sanjoy Sahu, Sujoy Das, Dipanjan Maiti, Sujay Das and many others to initiate an after school education facility for 90 children.
Apart from traditional education, lessons on different cultural activities such as drawing, singing, recitation and dancing are being provided, which supports the children for boosting their confidence level.
Women find their joy and confidence in the hand stitiching classes, which would lead them to an honourable life and more financial liberty.
Ocassional health check ups are being provided for the children to redeem their health isues and frequent evening snacks are served to them.
Presently, the activities are operated in a small room which is used as a community hall for the people, which becomes very congested for the children to do their normal chores.
Mission
To provide proper education in different form and taking up the health issues in a regular mode .
To provide honourable and financial independency for the women through several vocational training and to provide small manufaturing unit for their products and make them them marketable.
Necessity
Fund is to be raised for the abovesaid mission to build a free of cost full time educational institue for the children and a free of cost vocational training centre for the women. Different needs of the fund to -
# purchase of land for the school and training centre.
# construction of the same
# furnitures and electrification and appliances
# books and stationeries
# machines for the manufacturing unit
#payment for the efficient teachers and instructors for 6 months
All are requested to lend your helping hand and support these children and women to live with their heads held high.
