What is Agastya? What does it do?

Agastya International Foundation is a charitable education trust that runs the world's largest mobile hands-on science education program for economically disadvantaged children and teachers. Agastya is raising funds for Operation Vasantha program which is highly interactive and empowering initiative of Agastya, addressing the problem of school dropouts and children since 2009.

The children and drop-outs in the rural villages attend remedial lessons in the evenings after completing their school and day’s work. This program allows drop-outs to continue their studies and join back in to regular classes in school.

The Volunteers and Young Instructors provide interactive learning sessions to students through, singing, dancing, hands on experience on Science, Maths and Digital literacy which makes learning a great fun for them.

Along with spreading an importance of education and mainstreaming the dropouts, activities like parents counseling, health and hygiene camps and education on ecology are also undertaken.

What do you plan to do with the funds?

With this funds, Agastya will be able to run 20 Operation Vasantha Centres located in Chamrajnagar in Karnataka. Each Centre costs Rs. 36,000/- per year. The amount is utlised for paying the salary of Agastya trained volunteer who conducts the remedial classes in the evenings.

What is the impact of the project?

The project will strengthen rural children early on in primary and upper primary school, so that they are able to learn and achieve school success. This will lead to trigger positive behavioral shifts that lead to curious, confident and humane individuals engaging creatively in their communities and eventually mainstreaming school drop outs. In future, this program will elevate the educational status of children in every village and transform the level of empowerment in communities. Children will also tackle local societal problems and come up with solutions to these issues by using four simple steps- “Feel, Imagine, Do & Share.”
