Child sexual abuse is now becoming an epidemic. It has no barriers — not race, income or religion. It happens in your neighbourhood. It’s happened to someone you know and child sexual abuse in our society is becoming an important and continuing concern. The Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030) report says 1 in 10 girls (about 120 million) under the age of 20 has been a victim of sexual violence. 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually abused before they reach age 18. As we know Child Sexual Abuse in India is governed by ‘Protection of children from Sexual Offences Act 2012’. Instead of having a strong law for Child Sexual Abuse, due to the lack of awareness among people and old mentality of harm to honour of families in society, they avoid to register complaints and some families do not report because of stigma, fear, and lack of trust in the authorities. Social tolerance and lack of awareness also contribute to under-reporting. This is injustice to the victim and this motivates the other criminals to do such kind of acts more and more with other child.
To stop child sexual abuse and violence in our community and reduce their vulnerability by protecting them from harm and harmful situations we need to make child protection awareness programmes in 40 tribal villages so that they can get adequate knowledge and protect their children from sexual abuse and create a happy future.
For organising this awareness programme in 40 villages covering 18,000 families we need funds for creating posters booklets, leaflets, banners and small videos.
