In the bustling community of Dharavi 90 Feet Road, resides a quaint building that is brought to life by these children, brimming with exceptional talent and prodigious dreams. One of the many hindrances to their 'dreams' is an incapable infrastructure failing to provide a conducive environment for learning.

I have been closely working with the school principal Tabassum Aapa for 2 years addressing various issues such as drop out and absenteeism, designing classroom practices to improve english and math skills, assisting in technological support, increasing parent engagement and the participation of school management committee. Despite the extensive tools that are being provided to the school, children are having difficulty concentrating/learning since they have no tables or chairs to work with. They have to sit on the wet and damp floor in the humid, rainy weather of Mumbai throughout the day which poses a challenge to their learning and health. 

NEED FOR FUND RAISING

Upon several discussions with the school teachers as to what can be done to address the issue of infrastructural incapabilities, we initially sought to buy foldable cardboard desks from 'Help Desk'. However, the idea of a foldable cardboard would not sustain in Mumbai. Therefore, we felt we could at least do the bare minimum by providing durable carpets for the classrooms as well as by reconstructing and smoothening the tiles on the floor, so that they could sit comfortably, away from the dirt and grime on the floor.  After talking to the local manufacturers  in Dharavi who sell rugs and carpets, the estimated cost of setting up the carpet as well as remodeling the flooring for 4 classrooms is Rs. 25,000.

The school is generating funds of Rs. 15,000 from the prize money they have received in this session and my aim is to arrange the remaining amount.
