The tiger is not only a powerful icon of India's cultural and natural heritage but also of many cultures across the world.

There are an estimated 3000 wild tigers left in the world out of which about 2226 are in India.

Currently, there are 13 tiger range countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam. Today, there are 39 tiger reserves in India. Tigers are widely distributed from the mighty Himalayas to the rain forests of the southern Western Ghats and from the dry forests of Rajasthan to the moist forests of northeast India.

Together we can save them all

At WWF, we believe that humans can live in harmony with nature. Over the last 40 years, our efforts for tiger conservation have spanned across seven different landscapes. And in the last decade, we have finally seen a growth in tiger numbers. But this is just the beginning, and we need your support to keep the tiger population growing.

Roar for Tigers!

Tiger numbers are dwindling due to:
  • Poaching and illegal wildlife trade
  • Loss of habitat and prey species
  • Human-tiger conflict

Our efforts to conserve the Bengal tiger

We are working towards restoring tiger habitats and critical corridors while protecting the tiger and its prey base in India.
Your contribution will help us strengthen our tiger conservation efforts by:
  • Installing camera traps to monitor tiger population.
  • Providing field kits to frontline staff to make anti-poaching patrols more effective
  • Installing biogas plants in villages around forests to help reduce human-tiger conflict in these areas.
  • Providing immediate monetary relief to those who have lost livestock to tiger attacks, in order to prevent retaliatory killing of tigers.

You can help too!

With every tiger, we protect around 25,000 acres of forest that is home to hundreds of other species including plants, animals, birds and insect. That's because protecting the tiger benefits the hundreds of other species – plants, mammals, birds and insects - that share its habitat. So protecting the tiger means protecting the forest and everything in it.

Your contribution will go a long way in supporting our efforts towards tiger conservation in India.Together, we can protect life on our planet. Because together, anything is possible.
