    This fundraiser will benefit

    Strays of Delhi

    from New Delhi, Delhi

This is an add-on fundraiser which will directly support Wagging Tales Foundation. Instead of getting me birthday gifts, I'd rather have you all donate to this charity. Part of the donations will do towards treating Laddoo (pictured below), an indie dog with severe mange that I rescued and is currently undergoing treatment here.

More about the charity :
Malabica Chakraborty’s humble charity, Wagging Tales Foundation is a women-led non-profit entity, that has helped countless stray animals in distress. She has been actively working towards animal welfare for the last couple of years, lending a helping hand to the voiceless. The donations that are raised through crowdfunding can help this charity in some of the following ways:
  • Medical and boarding expenses: Her charity rescues animals who have been victims of road accidents, deadly diseases like parvo, distemper, tick fever, tumour, various forms of animal cruelty, you name it and they have seen it all. Some of the cases they have currently undertaken are:
1. Chhoti, a victim of a road accident. Her front limb has been severely injured, completely damaging her ligament, her wrist broken into two halves,  with amputation being the only option. Her hind leg has also been dislocated. Her treatment costs would be anywhere between 20,000 to 30,000 Rs( 275-400 USD).

2. Billu is a feral cat, who has severe pus-filled growth at the back of his ear resulting from a monkey bite. The growth will have to be surgically removed and tested for abnormality by a follow-up biopsy. The surgery with post-op care and biopsy will amount to Rs 12,000 approx (165 USD).

3.  Earl is a senior dog who was recently rescued from one of their regular feeding spots, who possible dragged himself at the place after being hit by a vehicle. He is currently undergoing treatment at a medical facility and they are doing the best to give him the life he deserves.

Like Choti, Billu and Earl, there are many many community animals that are being looked after on a day to day basis. But everything comes at a cost. They have also shifted few senior dogs to permanent foster care, where they can rest their old bones in peace and are looked after, also because their conditions do not allow them to survive on the streets.
Sterilisation: Malabica’s charity has sterilised more than 100 dogs in the last year and continue to do so, particularly targeting areas where there have been little to no sterilisation efforts. It takes at least 1500 Rs (20 USD)  to spay / neuter a dog. This year they aim to sterilise at least 100-150 more dogs. They strongly believe sterilising stray dogs is the only potent way to compassionately control their population and it also has several health benefits for them.
  • Vaccination: Vaccinating stray dogs is extremely important as it gives them protection against life-threatening diseases like Parvo, distemper, rabies etc. They do yearly vaccination drives for the dogs under their care and also vaccinate stray puppies once they are 45days old.
  • Feeding: She has grown to feed a tribe of more than 300 stray dogs and cats in the localities of south Delhi and Connaught Place. For most of these dogs, this is their only source of food in a day. The numbers have grown extensively for them after the covid lockdown. It takes approximately Rs 500 ( 7 USD) to feed a dog for a month. For 300 dogs it adds up to nearly Rs 150000 (2,000 USD) .
Malabica’s bills for medical treatments and surgeries are increasing day by day. She needs Rs3,00,000 to cover a month’s worth of feeding and taking care of medical and boarding expenses for her critical cases. Appealing to all animal lovers to please come forward and donate what you can to support Malabica in her efforts to ensure that all her dogs and other animals have good days and lives.
Even a small amount like Rs 500 (7USD)  will make a huge difference to an animal's life.
