    Shelters for dogs

    from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

I have personally worked with Nivedhya during a rescue and it's amazing that she takes care of almost 50 dogs on a daily basis! Feeding them and giving them shelter everyday is no easy task!

Covid has been hard on all of us and these animals are going to get evicted if we don't raise funds soon. Please contribute your bit to find these beautiful animals, a happy home!

Nivedya Pankaj founded the NGO Voice of Animals in the year 2016 in Coimbatore. She opened this shelter six years ago, it was more out of necessity and a certain responsibility that she had towards animals and their well-being since a child.  Nivedya and the team believe they can do a lot more in the upcoming years for animals. She is running the shelter full time for the last six years and has rescued more than 2000 plus animals that include cats, dogs, birds, horses, cows, and donkeys. She did most of the rescues all by herself and sometimes a friend would accompany her. This only cemented further when she saw the dire conditions of the stray animals and how they are ill-treated and abandoned by people. Some of those innocent animals have had to endure both physical and psychological abuse. Nivedya has a huge soft spot for senior animals and she goes the extra mile in taking care of them.

There have been many incidents that have torn me apart and have had a lasting effect on the animals which leads them to take a considerable amount of time to trust humans, even the ones who mean no harm. Every animal you rescue there is a bond that you end up sharing, a bond that never fades. The most challenging aspect was not the time but rather the emotional investment in each animal and the financial costs that came along. We as a team want to do a lot more for animals but everything around us has come to a standstill since the pandemic last year and the monthly expenses have become an expensive affair. Every day is a struggle and we have been made to face challenges from all corners, from not being able to pay the rent for many months to reach a point where we have to vacate the shelter in a few weeks”.

They have 49 dogs in-house and most of them are aged above 6, handicapped, and will live with them until they cross the bridge. With the second wave kicking in more brutally she is now running short of time and has to raise this money to shift the shelter to another place. The new place that they are considering shifting is a barren land and they have to build everything from scratch. From building shelters for the existing dogs,  cages for the newly rescued animals, both small and large, and a safe place for the caretaker and family.

2000FROM2000 is a campaign where we are trying to collect two thousand rupees from 2000 people and the money received will be used to rebuild the shelter in the new place and extend the capacity of the shelter to rescue more animals. How we use the donations will be transparent to anyone and you can email us for further details.  A single shelter cannot do all the work you need to join hands with the people and other shelters to make a larger difference.
We also want to do a little more with the money we are raising. We want to build the first Pet Crematorium in the city. It is painful to watch their body decaying on the road or being thrown into a dumpster which is unhygienic and can cause multiple infections. We also want to get the first underwater treadmill/hydrotherapy for handicapped animals, mostly dogs. Since the highest rescue cases are usually hit and run, most of them need physiotherapy or hydrotherapy.
Your support can change the lives of many animals. Donate now and be the Voice of Animals.
