Story

I, Aryan Dudvaani, am from Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. My younger sister, Anamika Dudvaani, secured an admission into a reputed Indian Law University RGNUL (Rajiv Gandhi National Law University), Patiala, Punjab, India in 2017.

To get into the best law schools in India (National Law Universities), one needs to get through CLAT (Common Law Admission Tests) and get a good score and rank for which up to 50,000 students compete.

It is a big accomplishment to get a rank under 1000 - which she did. She got an All-India Ranking of 819 and got into RGNUL , one of the best law schools in our country.

Before all of this happened was high school, and given our dire and unsteady financial situation, high school was atypical for her. We were not able to pay her school fees for which she had to drop out and wait another year until sitting for the qualifying exam before finally graduating. This really upset her education and this time around, we do not want to make the same mistake.

Our father is a businessman. He has been suffering losses in every business endeavor he has undertaken since 2008. More so after, in 2011, our mother was diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer. And even after providing the best treatment available in India, at that time, she was not able to survive. Our mother passed away in 2012. By this time, we had already exhausted our savings on the treatment and we have been trying to recover our financial position ever since.

I believe, because I have seen, that my sister is hardly an ordinary kid, but given our situation it has been hard for her to ever reach her true potential in terms of academics. When she got through CLAT (in those circumstances), it was clear to us that she was bound to achieve great things and we wanted nothing to upset her education again. Thus we borrowed enough money to get her through her first year comfortably.

But at this moment, it seems absolutely unlikely that we would be able to gather enough money in time again to pay her upcoming dues.

I feel responsible for my sister ever since our mother passed away a few years ago. Since then, I have tried to be a mother to my sister. Our father tries hard to make ends meet but it's not enough. And, from the bottom of my heart, I really really don't want her to drop her studies again. This time for god knows how much time.

She tells me that she loves it at her college and that she wants to become an International Lawyer. I really want her to become one too. And that is why we haven't told our father about milaap.org that we've started, for he has lost all hope, but we hope that we will be able to collect the amount and pay her fees in time.

My sister's course is an integrated (BA+LLB) 5-year UG course for law. And she has already completed one year of it. Her tuition fee for 5 years (i.e., 10 semesters) is 11,70,000 INR. And now, we need the remaining 9,44,000 INR or 13,720 USD (Tuition fee and allied college expenses) for the remaining 4 years of her college.

Of which, we need 1,25,000 INR or 1820 USD by 09th July, 2018 or she will most likely have to leave college and stop her studies.

We hope that you all will be kind enough to help us in this time of need. We will be forever obliged to you for your act of kindness.
