What is a computer? Many children have never seen one.

About Pinewood School
Pinewood School is a self-funded Christian school established in 1980 for underprivileged children. The monthly tuition fees is only INR 500 ($7) so that low-income families can send their children to a good caring school. It currently has 150 students. Most of its staff are volunteer retired teachers imparting selfless service. The school desperately wants to update its curriculum by integrating more technology.
Computers for 150 students
It currently has only 3 ancient computers to be shared among its pupils. Each student (most of whom cannot afford a computer of their own) gets only 10 minutes per week of practice time. Only reading about computers isn't fun. The school desperately needs ICT labs with enough computers.
Our Ultimate Goal
By 2020, we would like to be able to offer new technology to our children like tablets. We also pray that we can enable our teachers with modern teaching aid like projectors or at least a decent sized monitor and a fully networked classroom.
Our Immediate Project
We would like to build 2 labs with at least 10 computers each so that different classes can access it at different times. Will you help us? The entire collection will go towards this project.

11th April 2017
This is the last update. I, on behalf of Pinewood School would like to thank you all for your wonderful gifts.
We have decided that we will not extend this fundraiser any further. It was a huge learning experience for us. Although, we did not hit the mark, we are taking with us valuable knowledge. So, we are not disappointed at all.
Our plans & ambitions for these children remain unchanged. Infact, we have already charted our next course of action. We will be launching a website very soon to promote our cause. We are also in close contact with local businesses who could help us. Many of you also have sent helpful suggestions. We will take into consideration all of them too.
I can see the excitement in our children's eye's whenever they come to school. We are trying hard to change for the better.
I am confident that, within a few years we will be able to realise our dreams.
Thank you & goodbye.

This is our week 5 update. Thankfully, the weather is getting a little warmer - for the mountains. It is around 12°C but still very wet and foggy. Last week we had some sleet and the higher altitudes received lots of snow. Old timers were trying hard to recall when it was as cold in March.
We bought a 32" TV for audio-visual lessons this week. We are all excited to use this new medium of instruction. 3 of our teachers have laptops and we have drawn up a roster. Pre-schoolers use it to learn new songs, year ones & twos to learn phonetics and the year fours use it for their science and english lessons.
32" TV for lessons
Year 1 Phonetic lessonsThese are probably all that we can purchase right now through your kind support. I, personally am very grateful. We are well into our final days of our campaign. We have collected Rs 37,780 of our Rs 7,00,000 goal. I am estimating that we may not meet our target - although miracles do happen. I personally am not disappointed.
On the contrary, your love has spurred me to work harder for these children. A few have come up with suggestions, one being to set up a website. Coming from a computer engineering background, this is not an issue for me. I already have plans.
Come what may, I will continue to work for these children.
We here at Pinewood School have set our eyes on the next goal which we call Target 2030. We will work hard to make this school fully self-sustainable by 2030 through developing support systems, somewhere in the lines of a Social Enterprise.
We still have 14 days to go. We are also engaging with local people who can donate us their used PCs. The battle is ongoing. And we're not giving up.
Thank you for being our shields & swords.

This is our week 4 update. It is unusually cold for March this year and we are into our 2nd week of school. The temperature is still hovering around 7°C. The windy conditions aggravate the situation further. We have raised about Rs 36,780 of our Rs 7,00,000 goal so far.
We were able to buy a brand new printer for our school today.
This is a big achievement for us. Last year, we had to run around to the nearest cyber cafe to get everything printed. We can do that at school now. We are so grateful to all of you.The smiles on the faces of our pre-schoolers are worth a million. They can now work on colouring sheets instead of just having to look at boring pictures.
We're learning to colour redWe have also purchased a set of nice speakers to use in lessons. Here is a picture of Year 1s learning a new song - 'Have you ever seen'.
We would also like you to visit our Google+ page. We will be updating this regularly. This will allow you to keep tabs with the progress in school. We are not a fancy school. Neither do we wish to be one. Our vision is to provide 'excellent affordable education' especially for children of low income families. We are firm in our mission and values.
God Bless You All.
