Children love colours and colour brings brightness...

The dropout ratio has increased over a period of time in vernacular medium municipal schools of Mumbai. The fund given to these schools, can only suffice to repair the school infrastructure and not make it more colourful or brighter. My idea is to raise funds for the schools to reshape them into Building As a Learning Aid(BALA)

I am enrolled in the second year of a youth leadership fellowship program known as 'Gandhi Fellowship'. I work as a Program Monitor in six of the municipal schools of Mumbai in increasing the student learning outcome by working on the leadership competencies of the headmasters.

Building As A Learning Aid (BALA) is an innovative way to conceive and use the various building components like the floor, wall, door, window or even spaces like corridor and open space in such a way that it keeps children engaged in the process of learning. For example, a floor may no longer be a floor but a way to understand fractions or a sensitively designed corridor could help children to learn alphabets or water cycle.

Focus of this project is on my two schools located in Andheri East. One is Chakala Municipal Urdu School and the other is Gundavali Marathi Shala. Both these schools had an enrollment over 200 students but it has dropped down to 130 and 160.

We were already in the process of painting a corridor but due to lack of funds we have not been able to complete the project. The headmasters of both these schools Mrs.Nasreen and Mrs. prerna Parab have gone out of their way to fund for this project but unfortunately the local MLA's, corporates and NGOs are taking their own sweet time in responding.

We are hopeful in making this project succesful. I am reaching out to you in a hope that you would support me in this endeavour.

Accountability:

This is my first fund raising project hence i would personally look after the utilization of funds. Donors can themselves get in touch with me personally and visit the schools for the update. I promise to keep all the donors updated on the usage of their funds through pictures and posting a final accountability report.
