Nawa Ipil means 'new star' in Santali. We are a bunch of socially active members of Santal tribe, the largest tribe of India who are trying to start a community based media house for all indian tribes. We believe, like all the tribes of the world, Indian tribes have also been lagging in development because of the lack of communication with the rest of the world. In addition to that rampant industrialization, illegal land acquisitions, displacement, human trafficking, casteism etc. were amongst the endless number of challenges faced by Indian tribes. All these atrocities and their struggle for existence need to be shown to the world to gather support for them, to attract the attention of state and the central governments for helping them.

There must be a medium to show all these to the world, which we have decided to start-off with a website. We had started in 2006 with a print version of Nawa Ipil magazine which was earlier printed only in Santali. Now we have broadened our horizons to include all Indian tribes since our struggles and cultures are almost the same. We are starting off with the launch of a brand new website - www.nawaipil.com and an revised better version of the print publication. The website will have a online shop to sell art and crafts produced by tribals and will show the news and opinions of tribals people to the world. We will further launch a citizen journalism campaign (Click here to see the campaign) to gather local news from remote areas and show them to authorities via youtube channel. With gradual improvements in efficiency and better distribution system we intend to be financially sustainable within a year. Currently we will be publishing issues quarterly and will move towards monthly publication after a year.

We need funds for the launch of the website- www.nawaipil.com, most part of which has been made and for the print version of the initial issue. request you to help us with your kind contributions.
