When I decided to stay in Chennai to nurture Bharatanatyam, my childhood passion, I had Rs.17/- in my pocket. I was determined to learn from the masters and every opportunity I got, I listened, watched, practiced and performed. A Masters in Bharatanatyam from Madras University and a Doordarshan Graded Artiste, I am a disciple of Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy under whom I learn, perform and teach.
Many ask why I don't leave Chennai - I don't have an answer. The sounds of the nattuvangam vibrates at every nook and corner of the city, the air breathes of performances of legendary artistes; And my Guru’s dedicated time and effort towards improving my skills keeps me grounded here as I long to belong to this culturally embracing city.
I perform regularly with my teacher’s group and have given marked solo performances in and around Tamil Nadu including the Krishna Gana Sabha during the Chennai Music and Dance Festival, Chinna Melam Festival, Thanjavur, Uday Shankar Festival, Kolkata, Natyanjali Festival, Colombo, Tarang Utsav, Mumbai and many more.
Today, I have an opportunity to perform at Naali’s Aadi Natya Vizha on July 21st at 7.30 pm being held at Sivagami Petachi Auditorium in Alwarpet and your support could make it happen in the best possible way.
