Why am I fundraising?

We are raising funds to organize workshops, street plays and photographic exhibitions to sensitize people on issues related to the condition of women in our society. It’s an awareness campaign to show the society its own true picture regarding discrimination against the female gender.

What do I plan to do with the funds?

I have been in Udaipur for the last 2 years, spending a lot of time with different communities (urban and Rural), listening to their stories and belief systems. When I stayed in one of these villages I could see the stigma attached to the female gender more closely.

There is a sense of sadness when a girl child is born, but the same people worship the Goddess Durga, are unable to see the mythological goddess in the very women of their family. The violence that a woman faces are countless, from new born baby girls being thrown into garbage bins, to widowed women having to sacrifice the rest of their lives in mourning. I want to do my bit to stop all these abhorrent crimes.

It is very difficult for us to see and accept our face when it is dirty. Hence I, through a photographic exhibition and a workshop with three village communities in Udaipur, want to show the society its own true picture. I want the society to see and acknowledge its own reflection of what status it has given to its women. I hope to bring in some change in the mindset of the people. So, come along with me on a short but meaningful journey and contribute generously. We can change this situation if we dare to.

Where these exhibition and workshop are going to be organized –

One Workshop and Photographic Exhibition will be conducted in Udaipur city and other two in the rural communities of Udaipur (Village Name:- chhoti undari and kodiyat).

Who am I?

I Ritu Gautam, a fellow with Piramal foundation for Education leadership, has been working with rural schools and communities in Udaipur for the past 22 months. I have seen, experienced discrimination on a daily basis with women since a young age. I strongly wish to change this situation and this project is my first step towards it.
