What:
The ForTeacher project targets to improve learning outcomes of 750 students in a low-income private school situated in Viveknagar, Bengaluru through an immersive, holistic teacher development program.
The quality of education in low-income private schools does not guarantee a future for the children it serves. This academic year, 49 of such schools in Karnataka had 0% of its students passing the 10th Board exam. This data, sounded unreal, till I stepped into Sunshine Public school, a Government-aided private school in Ejipura community, Bengaluru. This year 60% of the students failed the 10th standard in the school. During an observation, the 1st standard teacher I work with, broke down in the middle of a class, when she found out that her 2 sons, both in 10th standard had failed in 4 subjects. Both of them had been studying in this school since Nursery.
The root cause of this learning gap is not a gap in teachers' willingness to learn, but a staggering knowledge and skill gap, and the project targets, just that support.
