Why are we fundraising?

There are 96 students studying at Putia Bhatsala Primary School, located approx. 10 KM away from Habra town under North 24 Parganas district. The students come from tribal communities and live in extreme poverty. Every day, the students come to school only for mid-day meal as their parents have not adequate money to feed them. The parents of these students’ work at paddy fieldd. They consume alcohol & illicit drugs and as a consequence the children frequently fall prey to violence at home. These students are very vulnerable to drug abuse, particularly glue sniffing & consuming cough syrup as their friends & peers already consume such drugs. Due to peer pressure, the students start getting addicted to glue sniffing.

Research suggest that glue sniffing causes serious and sometimes irreversible damage to the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and brain, memory impairment, diminished intelligence, even death.

From the school teachers, we found that the students have talent & sharp IQ, but they require friendly environment where they  can flourish.
