Help Silambavelankadu Bounce Back From Gaja

Gaja cyclone which hit the Delta region of Tamil Nadu has taken away the livelihood of many people sparing only their lives.

My native Silambavelangadu, a village near Madukkur town in Tanjore District is one of the affected areas. People here raised coconut trees like one of their family members and now mourn their deaths in the dark.

Initiating this fund raiser to get the spark back in their lives by providing at least the basic amenities and assuring them that there is light waiting at the end of this sorrowful tunnel.

Youngsters from the same place and youngsters all around have started helping with basic amenities and for survival for the moment.

But what next? The trees have been like kith and kin helping financially for all good and bad. Many have even got loans relying on these trees hoping for the next harvest season. Dreams shattered and Screens pulled down. All has come to an end for them.

Firstly, they are relying on generators for water. Diesel cost is expensive and God knows when the power supply will be back after all lines and safety has been assured. Till now the people are helping themselves with what they can fund from within.

Next, they have to cut and dispose the coconut trees, uproot standing broken trees and clear them from the farms. Prepare land for what they are going to plan and crop.

Equipments, labour is required for the same. It is just not one or two, thousands of trees and disposal of all of them is still a puzzle. We are looking into ways to make it simpler with affordable machinery.

Please lend a hand to initiate this rebirth of these coconut farmers. Agriculture should survive and to sustain that they need help at the moment.

Every small bit matters..please put in any small bit and do share the link with friends and relatives. A small amount from lots of people can make a huge difference!

Bounce back Silambai! Urge you to help us come back! Thank you !

Out of the funds collected, Rs31,000 has been used to buy blankets for 250 houses at a discounted rate. Thanks to Mr.S.Selavaraj from Kaveri Garments, Karur for helping us for this noble cause. Special thank you Surendher Rk anna for coordinating and making it possible within a couple of hours and transported it to Silambavelangadu early next morning. I am sure the blankets would help atleast some people and kids survive the cold with the overhead roofs of most houses gone. Thank you with folded hands to my friends and friends of friends for helping us gather this fund.

We are in talking terms for a generator with Mrs.Ahalya and Mr.Jayakumar of Shree Heymanth power engineering and they have been kind enough to give us a 15KVA Kriloskar generator costing Rs.2.5Lakhs for a very discounted amount for this noble cause. The rest of the Rs.88,711.73 + the remaining amount which would be collected from now on would be spent on this gen set.

I've put in an amount of Rs.1,00,000(borrowed) for the generator and also Rs.31,000(borrowed)  for the blankets from my hand so that I can reimburse it when the fund reflects in my account. Please find the NEFT transfer screenshots below.

Why generator? because all the immediate relief materials had been quickly arranged and provided by my sisters, brothers and cousins of Silambavelangadu. I thought this money that I started collecting at a later point of time that has been earned through hard work of our friends in India and abroad should not be a one time use for Silambavelangadu. If we can get the gen set it would help survive the cost of renting a gen set to fill water in the oor tank, survive darkness till power supply is back and also after the power supply is on, it would definitely not go waste but would be a part of all the good and bad in all of the houses and temple. That would reduce the expense to some extent of hiring it each time for all the people. Hope it works out and is really fruitful!
The money that would be saved would definitely be helpful at least a bit in helping clear the trees and prepare for the next step in the farms. I hope to do my best in terms of arranging and providing moral and technical guidance for the same.

Thanks to all the good souls, helpful souls and even the souls that had already done their part to some other support fund but didn't want to disappoint me and gave whatever they can...and many thanks to everybody who stood by us, the people of delta and are still helping us stand up and survive the blow..this proved to be a wonderful journey to discover a hidden bit of humanity in myself and others. I definitely wish to thank each person who have put in their best and your kind words means a lot to us. Delta would surely give back what you have done to them. Thank you with folded hands and head bowed!! Thanks from all of the people of Silambavelangadu, the place that gave me my dad, my inspiration!

PS: Apologies for torturing all of you in the middle of the night day and all the time till you responded ;) I am sure God will bless you all with abundant good health and good things in life :)
