As most of you might know, slums and fishing hamlets around marina has been vandalized. Most small shops of fishing women and men have been burnt or destroyed. While there are questions on who did it and why? setting those things apart, as a small step to help them to rebuild their lives, a few of us are trying to see if we can help some them with small grants. This will be given to people who were running road side small business in Nadukkupam. We did a survey of identifying the need. Most of them have lost their daily stocks of fish they procure to sell, roofs gone, their weighing balances, plastic tubs and aluminium tubs, ice box in which they stored fish, petromax light and electric bulb.
Today we have identified 200 such people who we think we may be able to help with weighing balance and aluminium tubs (2 per person). The balance for weighing 5 kg is estimated at Rs 2500/- each which we plan to give to around 100 people and tubs would cost Rs, 150/- each which we plan to give to 150 people.
If we are able to raise more we will think of providing other materials. We also can invite the donor to visit the site while distributing materials.
We shall not be putting any photos of distribution to the beneficiary online as gesture of their dignity!. However, you or anyone who you nominate are welcome to visit during the time of distribution.
