Navchetna Society is an Uttarakhand-based NGO working for the welfare of underprivileged women and children - of remote villages. Chandrakala, is one of the stories we would like to share with you to help us in saving her life.

Chandrakala is a 51-year old unemployed widow. She lost her husband 17 years ago and thereon took over as the bread-earner for the family.

She picked up a job as a school help staff to provide for her 2 children. Earning a meagre INR 3,000 per month, she skipped meals and worked double shifts to send her children to school.

In 2016, Chandrakala fell seriously ill. After several attempts to get free medical check-ups (as she did not have enough money for hospital bills), she approached Navchetna to help her out.
Navchetna took her to the hospital for a complete health check-up.

At the hospital, she was diagnosed with uterus cyst that needed immediate surgery. Navchetna funded her surgery and her hysterectomy was successfully completed. However, during the surgery, the doctors noted another serious heart anomaly, which needed cardiologist’s opinion. The cardiologists advised Chandrakala complete bed rest due to which she had to quit her job - leaving the family with absolutely no financial support.

Chandrakala now, requires a heart surgery (INR 3.5 lakhs) to save her life. If not operated soon, the doctors say her heart would collapse any time. Navchetna is currently financing her day-to-day medication and check-ups but now requires your help to fund her surgery.
