    twins of nitin

    from Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Nitin and Vidya were very excited when they got to know that they were having twins. They struggled to have children for years and this news had felt like a blessing to them. Last week when Vidya’s water broke, rather than welcoming their children happily into the world, she and Nitin were scared for their life.

“When we were on the way to the hospital, I was very scared. I thought I might lose my wife and my children as the delivery was supposed to be in November, after 2 more months. After the delivery, my wife was out of danger but my babies... my babies were shifted to the NICU immediately!” - Nitin, father

Weak, tiny and fragile

The twins, a baby girl and a baby boy, were prematurely born at just 26 weeks on the 23rd of August, with extremely low birth weight. Ever since then, they are suffering from severe respiratory distress syndrome.

“When I saw them for the first time, they looked so weak, tiny and fragile. I was scared that I might hurt them if I even touch them. They weighed just a little above one kg each. When I went back to Vidya who was still recovering from the surgery, I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t look at her and tell her what I saw, I couldn’t tell her that I was terrified of losing them!” - Nitin

They need NICU to survive but the father cannot afford it

The babies are a lot better than before but not yet out of danger. They need to stay in the hospital for a few more weeks to completely recover. A newborn baby usually weighs around 3kgs but neither of the babies weigh even half of it. They need to continue the treatment to survive but the poor father is unable to afford it anymore.

I sell green shade-cloths and tarpaulins on the roadside for a living. Whatever I earn for the day goes toward the food we eat. There is not much left to save. When I knew I was going to be a father, I started working harder and saving more but then the pandemic hit us hard. It was difficult but we managed somehow. Now, though, I don’t have any means to save my children. The treatment will cost us in lakhs, something I can never arrange. I am losing hope now. I am failing to save them.” - Nitin

You are their only hope. Your generous contribution can help this poor father save his twin babies. Click here to contribute.
