Whenever Kajal, mother of 2-year-old Sumit, holds her son close, put him to sleep, she fears that he won’t wake up the next moment. Sumit's liver is failing, he needs an urgent liver transplant. Without help, Kajal and her husband, Sunil, will lose their baby boy.

“Do I have to watch my son die in front of my eyes and stand there helplessly?" asks a teary-eyed Sunil.



Sunil is garbage collector while Kajal works as a domestic help. Affording a liver transplant is impossible for these parents, who have to skip their daily meals so that they can see their child live. They don't have much time, they are in desperate need of your help.

Sumit's condition is getting worse with every passing minute

Sumit was born with jaundice, which occurs when babies have a high level of bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced during the normal breakdown of red blood cells. The moment this child took his first breath, it was a life of struggle for him - a constant fight to survive. He is unable to describe his pain into words which makes it worse.  Sumit has a swollen, hard stomach - he cries out in pain. The little boy can't even sleep properly, he wails if his stomach is even touched slightly.

“Last year in 2018, we took him to Chattisgarh for treatment that's where our relatives are from. The doctors said that my son doesn't have simple jaundice, his liver is failing. But they assured that medicines could cure him. We were hopeful but he only got worse. Last month, he became critical - we decided to take him to Hyderabad. It was here we got to know that my son can only live with a transplant,” says Sunil, father.

When he smiles at me, I forget that I will lose him without the transplant

Sumit plays like a normal child, smiles at his parents whenever they are with him. But Kajal can't stop thinking about what will happen if they can't afford the transplant.  For the past 2 years, they have literally given everything to save their son. Kajal doesn't have the strength to see her child die in front of her eyes.

“I am a garbage collector and my wife is a domestic helper in Ambajogi, Maharashtra. Together we earn around Rs 4500 per month. All this goes away every month to pay the basic house rent and to feed ourselves. We have already taken a loan of Rs 60,000 from family and friends and now we have nothing more to spend on our son's treatment.  Our 6-year-old daughter is staying with our relatives back at home, she keeps calling us, asks us to come back - but I can't. I have to get Sumit treated, bit how will I do that without any help?" - Sunil, father.
