"Ami baari jaabo, tara tari jaabo. Ekhane khoob bhoy lagche. Amar bhalo lagche na (I want to go back home, very quickly. I’m very scared. I don't feel good here anymore)" - Santanu (5) whispering to his father in Bengali. 

The celebration they were waiting for so long didn't even last for a day 

Murari and Baisakhi's house was bustling with joy on the arrival of their newborn daughter. Just when their family was complete, destiny had other plans for them. They hadn't even completed their daughter's naming ceremony when they got to know their 5-year old son, Santanu, has blood cancer.

The lab called us...they told us to leave everything and immediately hospitalize Santanu 

"He was running a very high fever. Then he started vomiting as well. We rushed him to our local doctor. He told us to take him to the city immediately. That entire journey I was so tensed, just praying to God to not let it be anything major but he didn't listen to my prayers."- Baisakhi, mother

They were asked to hospitalize him. His blood count was so low that any delay could have had killed him.

"We didn't know how to deal with it. We had nowhere to go in this big city and were roaming around with our 6-month old baby. We were not prepared for all our money to be exhausted in the tests and hospitalization on just one visit. I had to skip his chemotherapy twice because I had no money. Everyday when he had patches of hair coming out, he used asks us why is this happening? We couldn’t even look into his eyes and tell him he has cancer." - Murari, father

Farmer is struggling to feed his own family now

Murari works as a farmer in his village and makes about Rs.6,500, only if the yield is good. With a new baby in the house, he had recently spent a lot of his savings on his wife's delivery. With whatever left, they had tried their best to give all the necessary treatment that Santanu needed but now they have ran out of every penny.

"I'm going back to my village to see if there is something left with us that we can sell to get money or take some loan. If I don't arrange something urgently, my family will not even be able to have their next meal." - Murari, father

Now Santanu's treatment can only be continued if  his parents can arrange Rs.3 lakhs. It is next to impossible for them. He requires chemotherapy and blood transfusions to recover from blood cancer.
