Hi there!

We are Shyam, Nishant, Desmona, Ronita, Nishanth and Vinusha, 2017 fellows in Teach for India and we have begun our respective teaching  journeys with the government primary school and girl’s higher secondary school in Saidapet (Chennai, TN).  Together we are teaching about 300 children. ( ~145 in 8th grade and 165 in the 4th grade).

We believe our children should have access to the same education and opportunities which are enjoyed by children from affluent sections of the society. Our children come from communities where parents work for a daily wage and are able to provide for just the basic necessities.  While parents understand the importance of education, they are able to devote only limited resources towards exposure and opportunities for their children.  

We have been teaching these children for the past 2 months but they are the ones from whom we have taken a great deal of learning. They are active, eager kids deserving of every opportunity as children from privileged families and we want to ensure that we can make that happen for them.

We believe that education does not stop with teaching just one child and by equipping the children with the skills and opportunities to be independent learners and proactive change makers, we can help them  realise their potential and impact their communities and lives.

We seek your help in enabling us to give these children the best during the time that we will be with them. The funds raised will go towards the following items in the current academic year.

1. Reading resources : books, dictionaries

2. Printing and stationery : Copies of study material, worksheets, assessments and activity books

3. Field trips:  Entrance fees, transport, other logistics

4. External academic and co-curricular opportunities:  Training and coaching fees, costumes and materials, transport and related logistics

5. Board games which enable to build vocabulary

6. Classroom resources : Speaker, projector
