Niloy aspires to be a cricketer and his face lights up even in pain when he talks about cricket. He says he is an all-rounder with an innocent pride in his feeble voice. The treatment has made him weak and restless. His shoulders and back hurt a lot. He is depressed that he is not able to be active and play like before. The pain and his weakness are killing him more than his disease itself.


Niloy Kar is 12-years-old and seems to be in pain most of the time. His shoulder hurts where a huge tumor has been formed. He has traveled a long way away from his home along with his mother and uncle in the hope that his pain would ease and he would recover with good medical treatment.  

“I feel helpless seeing my son cry in pain. How can I tell him that he has cancer which could kill him without treatment? And worst, how can I tell him that  cannot afford his treatment? I sold my jewels to come here from Bangladesh to Bangalore. Now I have nothing left. My only hope is you all.” – Shakti Kar, mother (weeping)

Niloy is diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer. His suffering started 5 months ago when he fell off his bicycle. His shoulder was hurt and there was a huge swelling that turned into a tumor in a few days. The parents had to go from one hospital to another for a month before his condition was diagnosed.


The Kar family came here after a relative suggested them to take their son to India for treatment where he can be saved. With that only hope, they have come all the way. Niloy now needs to undergo chemotherapy followed by surgery to recover.
