    This fundraiser will benefit

    Mayra

    from Chandigarh, Chandigarh

Mayra was just one month old when she had her first surgery done. The stitches that she had then, still looks fresh as if yesterday. It is just not healing. It’s all because of her disease. Watching her suffer for so long is just heartbreaking.”Karan, father

Leukocyte adhesion deficiency is a very rare disorder that causes the immune system to malfunction, resulting in a form of immunodeficiency in which our system is not able to protect the body effectively from viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

Fever that leaves her shivering and infections that can be fatal

Due to her weak immune system, Mayra is very prone to infections and even the smallest of infection can turn out to be fatal.

“No matter how much I clean the house or take precautions, infections find a way to reach her. She has high fevers every now and then which crosses 104 and sometimes even touches 105 degrees. Every time it happens, her small body shivers and she cries endlessly. If this continues, doctors say she might...that we might lose her.” - Shivani, mother

She is getting better but this happiness won’t stay for long without a transplant

If you see Mayra now, you wouldn’t believe she is suffering from a life-threatening disease. Her smile will make your heart melt. This is the best that Mayra has ever been but it might not last long.

“6 long months and it is now that we see her smile a little. She recognizes Karan and me and is so much better now. But her hardships aren't over yet, she needs a bone marrow transplant at the earliest and it should be done while she is healthy but…” - Shivani

No middle-class family can afford this much of money

The transplant will cost 35 lakhs which Karan and Shivani cannot afford and that too within the next few days. Karan works as a medical representative and Shivani use to work as a nurse in a hospital. Their income and savings are not enough to save their only daughter and they are devastated.

“4 lakhs, 5 lakhs...how much more can a middle-class family save? That’s what we had and we spent it all to save her but 35 lakhs more? How will we ever manage that?”- Karan
