“In a matter of days, my once healthy and happy child has now become bedridden. He is unable to move, speak or even breathe without machines. Doctors say that he needs surgery urgently but I cannot afford the cost. I am failing to save my son…” - Shivkumar

2 weeks ago, Yash had a severe headache and fever. Things escalated very quickly and he was taken to a city hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain condition. Ever since then, he has been fighting for his life in the ICU.

He needs urgent surgery to survive

10-year-old Yash was diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis, a very serious neurological condition in which inflammation of the brain and surrounding tissues occur, resulting from infection. This condition is causing a growing pressure inside Yash’s skull, which needs to be relieved at the earliest or else it can injure his brain and his spinal cord irreversibly.

“We don’t understand all these medical terms but we know one thing, and that is that our son's life is in danger. This condition can take him away from us. It’s been almost 2 weeks since he was admitted and he has barely spoken to us or acknowledged our presence. I just want to take him home, all safe and healthy, and for that he needs ugent surgery.” - Savita

Yash needs Decompressive Craniectomy, a surgery to relieve the pressure inside his skull that is otherwise unresponsive to any medication. He is currently on mechanical ventilation and is fed through tubes. If his condition is left untreated, it may lead to disorientation, vomiting, seizures, and even death.

The treatment will cost about 14 lakh rupees, which this poor family cannot afford.

You can help them save Yash

“I work as a driver and my wife works as a domestic help. Even with both our incomes together, we can barely manage to get by every month. We came here with 15, 000 rupees and too in borrowed money. Where will we bring lakhs of rupees from? How will we save our son like this?” - Shivkumar

Shivkumar and Savita have nowhere to go in the city. In the morning they run pillar to post, make calls to arrange money and medicines for Yash, and they spend their nights in the hospital lobby, barely able to sleep. They are now left with nothing - not even enough to afford a one-time meal for themselves.

They need your help. You can contribute and save Yash’s life. Your small donation can help Shivkumar and Savita afford this surgery.
