    child of Mahadev Shinde

    from Jalna, Maharashtra

“Every day my newborn baby would wake up with a fever no less than 104-105 degrees, and every day he would take the different medicines prescribed to him, but nothing ever worked. He soon started to feel so tired and weak that he lost half his weight. We didn’t understand what was happening, but we never thought it would be something that could kill him!” - Jayshree, mother

A rare genetic disorder is slowly killing him

Baby Swaroop started suffering from continuous high fever just two months after his birth. Worried, his parents went from one hospital to another for his cure but no medicine was working on him. It was only after one of the doctors suggested getting some tests done in a bigger hospital that little Swaroop was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID).

Infants with SCID appear healthy at birth but are highly susceptible to severe infections. The condition is fatal, usually within the first year or two of life, unless infants receive strong immunity-restoring treatments. In 9-month-old Swaroop's case, he needs a stem cell transplant to survive.

I want to see him happy and living a long life; this transplant is our only hope

“When doctors said that my baby could die because of this disease, I was extremely shocked. I kept saying to myself that it was all just a bad dream, and that this wasn't real. It was so hard to believe, but slowly I came to terms with it when I saw my child suffer from frequent blood infections and recurring high fever. Watching him in pain is unbearable and I want it to go away. I want to see him happy and live a long life. This transplant is our only hope.” - Jayshree

Before the transplant can happen, the little child needs to undergo chemotherapy, but the parents are unable to afford even that. They are struggling to continue.

They need your help to save Swaroop

Mahadev, Swaroop's father, is just a few floors away from his precious son, but he still cannot go and see him every day. He spends his entire day in the hospital lobby thinking about his child, waiting for an update. On the days when he gets to see him, he just holds his baby in his arms as long as he can.

“My wife and I work as daily wage labourers. We survive with what we earn. We have no savings or assets at all. Whatever money we had, we spent it all now. No one I know can help me in this fight because they are labourers too, just like us. It is getting harder each day. I don’t wanna lose hope but... how will I save my son like this? How will I afford this treatment?” - Mahadev
