12-year-old Manjunath is the life and soul of the community. Over the years, the people who have known him never believed that this boy was actually suffering from a serious heart problem. Today, Manjunath is on a ventilator trying to recover from this condition that has plagued him since birth, and his parents are at a loss for resources to nurse their boy to health and bring him back home.
When he was born, Manjunath had a heart defect. “Hole in the heart! We were shocked when they said that. To us, it meant all the blood was leaking and he would die. Our child would turn blue from time to time. Apart from that physical symptom, he has been a fighter. He would kick and play, laugh and roll around. He was a happy child. He gave us strength. He gave us hope. So we stopped worrying about his life” says his father, Raghavendran.
A year after his birth, the parents had to rush the little one in for a surgery for a repair of the hole. Since then, Raghavendran and his wife Sitalakshmi have been taking Manjunath to the hospital every six months to make sure his heart is holding up.
Raghavendran is a carpenter earning a maximum of Rs. 10,000/month. He takes care of his ailing mother, the household expenses and puts his sons through school. Manjunath’s brother, Eshwar is waiting for his partner in crime to return home in good health.
Manjunath’s hospital expenses have amounted to Rs. 5.5 Lakhs. His family is unable to bear these costs and they need your help to discharge their son and bring him back home.
