“When I close my eyes, I imagine myself as a doctor, helping people, just like the doctors who have been helping me. I dream of wearing that white coat, working hard, and making my family proud. I love studying, I even passed eleventh with an impressive score of 98% and looking forward it pass my board exam with flying colours and work towards my goal. But now, cancer is back in my life, trying to take that dream away.  – Sahana

My mother took me to doctors in different cities, but no one could diagnose the actual reason

I’m Sahana, 18 years old, and I’ve been fighting cancer since I was 14. It’s called T-cell lymphoma. The first time, I was so scared. My mom took me to so many doctors when I was sick, but no one knew what was wrong. My fever wouldn’t go away, and my legs started swelling. It wasn’t until we went to a big hospital in Bangalore that we found out—it was cancer.

I couldn’t believe it. My mom couldn’t believe it either. She was already dealing with so much. My father… he’s an alcoholic. He’s never helped us, not even when I got sick. Instead, he sells things from our house to get money to drink. Every single day, my mom takes care of me and my brother, all by herself." - Sahana

She’s the only one fighting for us. She sold our land and took loans to get me the treatment I needed. And after more than a year of fighting, I beat cancer. I thought I had won for good.

Cancer is back to haunt me and my dreams are slipping away again

Last summer, I got sick again. My legs swelled up, and we rushed back to the hospital. The doctors told us the cancer had come back. It was like everything I had worked for, all the dreams I had, were slipping away again.

My mother is my only strength, my father… he’s an alcoholic, he doesn't care

"I’m going to need five or six rounds of chemotherapy, and it costs more money than my family has. We’ve already used up everything. My mom, who is a schoolteacher, has done everything for me. She’s given up so much to see me get better, and she’s always been the only one to care for us. But now, we need help." -Sahana

I Want To Be A Doctor—And Help Others Like Me

I’ve come this far, and I’m not giving up now. Even while I’m in pain, lying in the hospital bed, all I can think about is getting better so I can start studying again. I want to crack NEET and become a doctor to help people who are going through what I’m going through.

Please, don’t let my dream end here. Your support can help me beat cancer again. Your kindness can give me the chance to live the life I’ve always dreamed of. I have beaten cancer once, and I will do it again!
