Shri Dwarka Prasad Gutgutia, founder of the school, was a freedom fighter during his early days. In 1972, the Government of India recognized and supported such fighters with Freedom Fighters’ Pension Scheme. Shri Dwarka Prasad Gutgutia was recognized by the government as one such beneficiary but he didn’t utilize any benefit of the said fund for a very long time. In 1995, after accepting an old friend’s suggestion, he utilized his accumulated freedom fighter’s pension amount to set up a trust for charitable and educational purpose and named it "Dwarka Prasad Rukmani Devi Gutgutia Charitable Trust". In 1996, the trust acquired a small plot and constructed a school called “Rukmani Devi Gutgutia Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir”. The school has been running ever since to educate those kids whose parents cannot afford enough to send their children to high-end schools.
 

The school has grown ever since its inception from just 4 classrooms to 14 classrooms and a playground in a span of 23 years. Capable individuals from various segments of the society have supported the cause during these years to develop the infrastructure of the school. As a result, we are currently supporting the strength of 230 students from nursery to class VII. We have a faculty of 12 teachers to impart education and skill among the students.

Challenges
Currently, this school is going through a bad time and requires funding to provide good quality education to poor children. While all these years the school has managed to grow its infrastructure, competition has also grown rapidly. While there were times when scoring 1st Division marks was considered a huge achievement, today even the students scoring more than 90% marks are facing difficulties in getting admissions at good colleges.
Under such circumstances, maintaining the quality of education up to the level of other schools has become a great challenge. Also, the ever-increasing cost of running and maintaining the school is also posing challenges. The situation has crossed the point where our expenses to run the school overshoot the sources of our revenue.

How this fundraising will help
Funds raised through this activity will be accumulated to create a corpus fund for the school. This corpus fund will we invested by the trust in government schemes to create a sustainable flow. Thereafter, Income received from these investments shall be utilized to meet the immediate needs of the school and further improve the quality of education.
