"It started with a swelling around his neck that kept on growing bigger and bigger. His coughing was so unbearable that at times it felt like he was gasping for breath. Even after starting antibiotics, nothing seemed to work. We did everything, from X-rays to Sonography, but nobody could tell me what happened to my son. It was only after his blood reports came that we found out he has Blood Cancer."- Sunita, mother

His neck swelling turned out to be cancer 

Shyamal felt an unfamiliar growth around his neck while he was bathing his son, Ganesh. Within a week, his swelling spiraled and he would feel very uneasy with constant headaches. Soon after, his upper limb started swelling too. They ran several complicated tests only to find out ultimately that he has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Blood Cancer).

"It took my son just a week to be ravaged by cancer. It felt like just one day was enough to devastate our entire lives. He lost 3kgs in a week and would stay awake the entire night, writhing in pain. Next day, when the doctor was trying to insert a tube in my son's neck to start and did his bone marrow test, I fainted at the hospital seeing that."- Shyamal, father

This farmer has to sell off his land for son's treatment

"What value will my land or house or a piece of jewellery hold if my son is not there to stay with us? I sold off everything immediately because all I wanted was to save him anyhow. His chemotherapy will go on for a long term and I have spent every penny that I could earn in my entire lifetime, but it is still not enough."- Shyamal, father

Being a farmer, who no longer owns his land, means that the very thing that could feed his family ceased overnight. He no longer has a source of income but 4 members to feed daily. After spending around 4 lakhs on his son's treatment till now, now he is completely helpless to arrange 8 lakhs more.

She prays to God to give her Cancer instead of her son

"It wrenches my heart to keep that hope alive anymore because at one instance I know that regular chemo can save my son but at the same time we are terrified of not being able to provide him that. Nobody in our family has ever had such a huge disease so why does my 8-year old have to suffer so much? If I could ask God for one thing right now, it would be to give his cancer to me instead."- Sunita, mother

Ganesh has a terrible chest infection due to his PICC line tube through which he would be administered chemo. Now, he needs to take an injection in his leg for 42 days to cure this infection. Everyday the injection costs Shyamal Rs.730, which is higher than his income for the entire week.



Shyamal and Sunita just want to save their 8-year son and return his lost smile back to him. They are spending sleepless nights thinking of how they will ever be able to achieve that if they don't arrange the funds soon.
