“My son gave up his dream of joining the army because we were poor. He became a delivery boy so he could support the family when I grew too old to work. But now, he lies in a coma after a terrible accident. Every day, I’m drowning in guilt because I can’t save him… because of our financial difficulties.” — Haridesh Singh, Deepak’s father

It was just another evening when 25-year-old Deepak was heading home after a long day at work. But fate had something cruel in store. On the night of April 6, Deepak met with a serious accident. A few strangers found him lying unconscious on the side of the road—his helmet shattered, his head bleeding, his body limp. There was no one around who knew who he was, no one who could even call for help. Fortunately, the bystanders rushed him to the nearest hospital. A few hours later, his phone rang at home. When his parents answered, they were told their only son was battling for his life.

He has undergone two brain surgeries—but he's still unconscious and fighting for his life

Since that night, Deepak hasn’t woken up.He suffered major trauma to his brain and multiple injuries across his body. His condition was declared critical upon arrival. He was immediately shifted to the ICU and had to undergo two major surgeries to relieve pressure from his brain.

Though the surgeries were successful in stabilising him to some extent, Deepak hasn’t regained consciousness. There has been slight movement in his hand, just enough to offer some hope to his devastated parents. Doctors say the road to recovery will be long and uncertain, but he can survive if his treatment continues without interruption.

“He was our only son. When my husband’s health began to get worse, Deepak took over everything. He told his father, ‘Papa, I will handle everything now. You rest.’ And he did—he paid the bills, looked after the house, never let us feel the pinch. And now, he’s fighting for his life… and we’re helpless.” — Reema Singh, Deepak’s mother

‘We have spent our entire savings and taken loans to keep him alive until now. We have nothing left’

Deepak comes from a humble middle-class family. His father Haridesh had worked in a private company but had to quit six months ago due to age-related illness. With no pension or retirement savings, it was Deepak who stepped up to take on the responsibility. He gave up his dream of joining the army—his childhood ambition—and took up a job with a delivery company as a delivery partner so he could bring in a steady income and look after his parents. He was the family’s only earning member. His married sister is unable to contribute, and the family owns no property or assets. When the accident happened, they were already living hand-to-mouth.

In the past ten days, they’ve spent more than ₹11 lakh—through contributions from friends, well-wishers, and by selling the little gold they had. Loans have been taken. Debts have piled up. But now, there is nothing left. And yet, Deepak needs ongoing ICU care and further medical intervention to survive.

“Now, I feel guilty of allowing him to work like this. I wish I had done more. We’ve spent everything we had—our savings, our security, everything. Our family is shattered. I beg you, please help us save our son. Only your support can give him a chance to live. — Haridesh Singh, Deepak’s father
