"We are in a situation where we cannot move ahead nor can we step back. In just a matter of days, our healthy and active child is fighting for her life in the ICU, unable to even breathe on her own." -Koteshwari, mother
Koteshwari and Ravi's 6-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). It occurs when fluid builds up in the lungs' tiny, elastic air sacs (alveoli) making it difficult for this little girl to breathe on her own. She is dependent on machines for oxygen.
An ambulance ride that costed 3 Lakh rupees
In the last week of March, this little girl fell sick. What started as recurrent fever only got worse. Multiple treatments and tests later her lung condition was diagnosed. Initially, the infection was only on one side of her lung but within a few hours, both her lungs were severely damaged. Her oxygen dropped to a 40 and doctors asked the parents to shift the child immediately to a bigger hospital."On 8th March, our daughter's condition was very severe and we were asked to shift her immediately to Chennai which was miles away from us. A normal ambulance would have costed us 35 thousand rupees but due to our child's condition, she needed a highly equiped system to keep her alive and safe. We only had two options, a flight that would cost us 10 Lakh rupees or an ambulance for 3 Lakh rupees. We put our everything at stake just to get our child to the hospital."- Ravi, father
A call for help from their daughter
Koteshwari and Ravi moved to Visakhapatnam with their 5-year-old son for work while their daughter was living with her grandmother back in their hometown in Guntur. The little girl would eagerly wait for her parent's phone call to talk to them about their day. But they never thought that one day during a similar phone call they would hear her struggling to breathe."We thought it was just a viral fever but even after 10 days things didn't seem to get better. We immediately came back home, only to see her hospitalized in the middle of the night fighting for her life." - Koteshwari
This partially-blind father needs your help to save his daughter
"Ever since I started losing my eyesight 7 years ago, life had already become difficult to manage financially. For now, we have mortgaged our gold, and even sold some of it, but that one ambulance ride was enough to exhaust all of that money. Every day here is a struggle. We don't understand the language; we are dependent on strangers for translations and financially, bills are just pilling up and we don't know what to do. "- Ravi, fatherTheir daughter needs 2-3 weeks of intense care and medication to survive the respiratory disorder. However, the cost of the treatment is beyond their means. They need help.
You can help. Your contributions to this fundraiser will help these parents afford the treatment their daughter needs and take her back home safe and sound.
