Her symptoms are causing more mental agony than physical pain
As the swelling grew in size, so did her problems. It started with her inability to walk properly. She now needs a stick to walk and is unable to stand upright or sit properly, which causes her to get injured very frequently. She remains in pain all the time and needs help to perform her routine chores. She has lost control over her urination, which often leaves her embarrassed and sad.

"What kid likes to stay at home? When I see other children rush out to play after coming from school, I think of my helpless daughter who is forced to stay indoors due to her condition. She has lost the confidence to step out of the house even for sometime, fearing ridicule and mockery. Will she ever be able to cope with this mental agony?" - Jamila, mother, sobs while staring at her daughter

She was born with a lump of misery
Muntayaz's daughter was born with a small lump on her lower back. They had no clue back then that it would later grow to become the biggest cause of misery for their daughter. The doctors had warned them about this possibility but due to a lack of financial resources they did not act on their advice. The lump increased in size as she grew, and started posing all sorts of problems."The doctors told us that there was a gap in the lower portion of the covering of her spinal cord. Due to this, the spinal cord protruded out in the form of a swelling on her back. They told us that it would need to be corrected by surgery after some years, but we could not afford it by any means, so we did not follow up. But, now I cannot bear to see my daughter suffering like this." - Muntayaz, the father, narrates with grim expressions

This has instilled fear in her. Earlier she used to step out of the house to get herself some chocolates, but someone or the other would push her to the ground and run away. They would mock her, call her names, and snatch her stick. She would struggle to get up, which amused the kids and they laughed at her. All this has left her traumatized to the extent that she no more wishes to leave the house for any reason." - Jamila, her mother explains with a heavy heart
Every passing day adds a new struggle for her
Life is getting tougher for this poor girl. Her mobility is getting reduced by the day as the growing lump further presses on her nerves. Even simple tasks like climbing the stairs seem extremely difficult for her and take a lot of time. She doesn't go with her parents to visit any relatives fearing embarrassment due to the possibility of her wetting herself.
"She cries a lot when she sees other kids playing outside or coming to our place for festivals. She asks me, whether she will ever be able to do all of that. Would be she able to go to school and live her life with confidence? I feel helpless, as I have no answers to her questions. I feel defeated as I cannot give her the life she wants." - Muntayaz, the father, breaks down.

The possibility of surgery has brought new hope in her life
Troubled by her distress and suffering the parents approached a multi-specialty hospital, where the doctors informed them that a series of surgeries would be needed to remove her swelling and make her live life normally again. It would also require her to stay in the ICU for some days after surgery. The estimated cost for the entire procedure would be INR 10 lakhs."The mere thought of getting back to normal has sparked life in her. She looks excited and happy. She often calls her cousins to tell them about the surgery and her chances of getting fine again. But, little does she know that we cannot afford the amount needed for her surgery. I do not have the courage to tell her this as it would end the hope she is desperately clinging onto." - Jamila. the mother looks with vacant eyes.

There is no way for her parents to arrange the money
Muntayaz is a daily wage worker who barely earns enough to put food on the table for the entire family. They have spent about INR 50,000 on her treatment by taking loans from their relatives. No one is ready to help them now with this huge amount."My daughter is very bright. Though she has never been to school, she wishes to be a doctor one day and make us proud. I hope, somehow by god's grace, this amount gets arranged so that she at least gets a chance to live her life with confidence and be whatever she wants to be." - Muntayaz, father with a ray of hope in his eyes.
